"Jinxx, wake up! Get up you lazy ass." I'm jerked awake by someone shaking me. I let out a loud groan and try to pry myself away from their hands. I try to use Jedi powers on the being, but to no avail.
"Ugh. Can you not?" I mumble to Sami.
"Come on, Jinxx, it's Sunday, mom and dad are getting ready, and you said you would go with me today. I promised Evelyn you would be there." Sami whines at me. I open my eyes to the brightly lit room, She must have opened the curtain.
"Why? There's no point, really." I groan and roll off my bed, landing on the floor with a thud.
"No, there is a point! And you promised. You pinkie swore." Sami crosses her arms and looks down at me. Shit, I did. I sigh, giving in to her pleas. She grins and prances toward my closet. "I'll pick out your dress, go shower." I'm too tired to argue, so I oblige.
After I get out of the shower, I walk out of the bathroom and see a floral dress laying on my bed.
"Flowers? Really?" I call out to Sami. She pokes her head into my room. She has only half of her hair straightened, and the shaved side of her head is pressed down flat. I try not to laugh at her expression.
"Well, it was either that one, or the striped one with like twelve different colors." She raises we eyebrows expectedly. "So what'll it be?"
"No. I am not wearing a dress. What if a crazed buttstabber comes in and I have to run? I can't run in heels!" I say, getting water out of my ear.
"That's why you're going to wear my Vans. I have a floral pair I picked out for you." Sami smiles at me. "And you can run in Vans."
"Honey, I can barely walk I'm Vans. I'm a Converse girl." I snort and pick up the dress, going into my bathroom to change into it.
When our mother and father drop us off, they smile at me.
"I'm so glad you're finally going to church!" My mother exclaims, reaching out of the window and throwing her arms around my neck. I awkwardly pay her arms and let out a nervous laugh.
"Well I promised Sami, and I can't break that promise." I say as I wave them goodbye. Sami squeals in excitement and almost drags me to the door. When we get in, were greeted with a series of 'Hi' and 'Hey'. She takes me over towards the crowd of people.
"Hey, Evelyn! This is Jinxx, and I finally was able to bring her this morning." Sami introduces me to a woman in her late twenties, with red hair and glasses.
"Well hello, it's so great to finally meet you, Sami talks a lot about you. Is Jinxx your... Real name?" Evelyn asks. She's not soft spoken, she has an excited voice.
"Oh, no, my name is Jenna. Please call me Jenna." I smile. Only close people get to call me Jinxx, like really close people. Sami and I made the name up while looking at baby names for my aunt a couple years ago.
"Oh, okay. The lesson is about to start, you can make yourself at home." Evelyn smiles at us and walks around the tables in the middle of the room to exit through the door in the corner.
"Evelyn teaches the little kids every Sunday. They color pictures, an they watch something like Veggie Tales or something." Sami seems entirely too energetic for someone who's up at 9:00 in the morning.
"How long have you gone to this church?" I ask. Sami stops and thinks for a minute. It couldn't be very long, I've only heard about it a few months ago.
"About umm... Four years, almost. This June will be four years." She smiles as a girl with long black hair bounds up to her with a reluctant girl with short blonde hair at her heels.
"Hey, Sami! Who's this?" The girl with the black hair says. She's pretty, with hazel eyes and full lips. Prettier than I can ever be. She adjusts a flower crown in her hair and smiles at me.
"This is Jinxx, she's my sister." Sami looks over at me a nudges me with her elbow. "This is Nichole. Her full name is Nicholette, but we just call her Nichole."
"Oh, you got to come! That's so great!" Nichole holds out her hand, waiting for me to shake it. I gingerly take her hand, as if afraid to break her. As I shake her hand, the other girl looks me up and down, like she's studying me.
"This is Scarlett, this is my sister. Well technically not my sister, but close enough to be my sister. Is Jenna your sister?" Nichole goes to talk to Sami, leaving me alone with Scarlett. I suddenly feel very nervous about how I stand, so I fold my hangs together behind my back.
"You can call me Scar." She says simply. She takes my hand and shakes it a little.
"O-okay. Scar." The word slides from my lips smoothly, and she smiles down at me and let's go of my hand. She's stunningly beautiful, she has a round face with a slightly pointy nose, and brown eyes that seem to pierce through the air when she laid her eyes on me. She has really short blonde hair, but she pulls it off, not a lot of people can.
"Come on, Jinxx, it's almost time to start." Sami saves me from the awkwardness of the situation.
----------
When church is over, Sami brings me to Nichole and Scar one more time.
"So later we should go hang out later at the park." Nichole says, smiling at Sami.
"Oh yeah, I'm free every day this summer, basically." Sami smiles. She looks over at me, as if asking me if she can go.
"You want me to go?" I ask. "I'm not the most... interesting person to hang around. I'm sure you'll be fine without me."
"Oh, no. We insist." Scarlett looks at me and smiles.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" Nichole says, and it seems she might burst, she's so excited. I sigh and nod, and Sami squeals and engulfs me in a bear hug.
"I'm so happy thank you thank you thank you!" She exclaims. I pat her arm and tell her to let go. Nichole approaches me slowly.
"Can I have a hug?" She seems hesitant, as if she's afraid of offending me. I shake my head, but I stick my hand out. She smiles and shakes my hand, and when she let's go, Scar takes me hand. She stares me straight in the eye and brings my hand to her mouth and presses we lips onto the back of my hand. I feel my face slowly heat up as we maintain eye contact. When she lets go, she gives me a stealthy wink, and my skin ignites.
"Oh, it's time for us to go, but well see you guys later?" Nichole confirms our plans. When Sami nods, Nichole smiles and waves is goodbye. As they walk away, I let out a sigh of relief.
"Jenna, it's time to go, come on." My mothers stern voice pulls me from my thoughts and I shuffle behind her as she leads us out the door.
On the way home, I stare out the window at the clouds rolling by, and the only thing that fills my mind is brown eyes and hand kissing.
