Stepping Stone

There's a dark little place,

In the back of our minds.

That most of us fear and dread.

It's a little place called loneliness.

It's an emotion that cannot be read.

It's a sorrow that consumes us,

And gnaws us to the bone.

It speaks of all our lost trust,

And whispers in a soft, dead tone.

And the truth is, loneliness hurts.

You sort of feel like a stepping stone,

Always used but never known.

But you have to fight this feeling.

For you are not a stone.

Because there is always someone out there.

That feels the same:

ALONE.
