Sitting in my long time best friends house was really awkward, how can I talk to her so well over text but in person I'm sitting here like an awkward duck.
My best friend Claire invited me to stay with her family for the summer. It was much appreciated as I needed time away from my family, we're a family of 7 living in a 3 bedroom house, and it gets pretty hectic, so this invite was really appreciated.
Claires life was very simple compared to mine, she lived in a pretty cottage with her mom and her cat named Missy, I love Missy dearly, and her mom is very kind too. I don't get to see Claire very often, she lives in the small town of Katoka Grove, which is about a 5 hour drive away, and with my family we could never make it up there. Because of that, the last time I saw Claire I was 7, being 16 now its been a while.
Just a few days ago the only memories I had of her is as this socially awkward 6 year old with long but very curly blonde hair, the cutest dimples, and bright blue eyes.
Now me? I was the complete opposite, when I first met her, at the ripe old age of 7, I was a complete social butterfly, and i had short almost black hair, and my eyes are brown.
Compared to now she is very different, at 15 she still had those beautiful eyes, and those super cute dimples, but her hair is short, shoulder length, and she always straightens it, oh and also, she is absolutely a social butterfly, like I was. She loves wearing skirts, and mostly tank tops, she has loads of friends and is really more of a "popular girl".
I am 16 and haven't really changed, my hair is longer and I'm taller, standing at a nice 5'10, which feels weird, when Claire and I were younger we were almost the same height, now we've got quite the height gap, seen as shes 5'4. I'm also not so social anymore, I'm really an outcast at school, which is really the reason I'm still best friends with someone I haven't seen since I was seven.
"Lexi cmon mom is gonna take us for a drive, bring your stuff too" Claire said
"Oh sure, why do I need my stuff though?" I asked
"Uh just so Missy doesn't pee on it while we're gone or something" Claire answered, she sounded strange about it though?
"Oh good call, thanks" I called back
I put my stuff in the car and saw some of Claires stuff there too, which at first I thought was a bit unusual that she hadn't brought it in yet from coming to pick me up but I brushed it off.
We got into the car and started driving, I didn't realize it at the time but I ended up falling asleep in the car ride, I guess I was tired..
I woke up to Claire nudging me saying "Lexi! Lexi wake up we're here!" I slowly opened my eyes, I needed a minute to get used to the bright light.
Looking around I was really confused, I saw trees everywhere and a sign, there was something on it, but I couldn't read it as my glasses had fallen off.
"Huhh?" I said "where are we? This isn't your house?" I asked
"We are at camp Katoka lexi!!" Claire answered followed by my
"What. What do you mean.. Claire you're joking right?? I don't want to go to camp!!"
