In the autumn of 1411, around a year after what is now known as the battle of the tides, a battle between Humanity's Soldiers and The Ministry, most nations involved returned to their normal business.
During one of the Ignition Union's expeditions into the Eternal Gale, several people were running around, panicking.
Deepdelver Kevin Donnet was the only one truly calm. "You all try and keep her alive. I'll fight the bounders off." He said, opening the door of the frontier furnace.
One of the soldiers looked at him. "That's insane...!" He replied.
Kevin narrowed his eyes. "I've been through worse. Just... Make sure it goes well." He responded.
The soldier went back, nodding.

For the next hour and a half, Kevin was locked outside, fighting off any and all incoming threats while the screams of a presumably tormented woman came from inside. No matter how many times Kevin would be knocked down, he'd get up - something he learned from Pakki. "I've only got one of them left... I have to protect him, no matter what it takes!" He said to himself as he kept fighting. "After all... I took an oath to protect my comrades!"
After finally slaying the last bounder of the pack, Kevin was breathing heavily, proudly turning towards the Union's base, only to see one of it's windows broken.

He rushed back to the door, trying to open it, but it had been locked.
"Shit...!" He thought to himself, climbing upon it and jumping through the broken window.
The scene before him horrified him - His comrades were all dead, some hacked in half, other had their heads bashed in and some were left with gaping holes from stabs.
That's when the realization set in - This was no monster. It was a human.
Soft, high-pitched crying could be heard from one of the rooms deeper inside as he rushed towards it. Just as he entered the room, he could see the dead woman, a clean slice across her throat and the people helping her give birth laying around the room. On the bed beside her was a baby wrapped in cloth. A hooded figure with a bloodied Greatsword eminating darkness stood there, raising the blade.

Kevin dashed towards him, his wounds splashing out blood. "You fucking sick asshole!!"
The figure slammed the greatsword down on the baby, but it miraculously stopped just inches from it. Kevin didn't understand it. Did he hit the mother by accident? Did he stop it because of guilt? Is he trying to threaten him? Regardless, Kevin spun around, slashing at him with his Railblade.
The hooded figure just barely blocked it with the greatsword, before suddenly being consumed by shadows coming from the sword, disappearing.

Kevin stabbed at the figure, his Railblade going straight into the wall, being only a split second late. If he wasn't so severely wounded, he would have been fast enough.
He stopped for a moment, looking at his dead comrades. "Fuck... Not again... Not again...." He said, looking around before spotting the baby.
He quickly picked him up, examining him for any wounds.
Kevin then spotted it - A ribcage of bones with an indentation across them from the greatsword. "W-What the hell...? He... Protected himself?..."
Kevin looked at the bones slowly dust away as the baby kept crying, before hugging him. "It's okay... It's okay... I won't let it happen ever again..." He said, tearing up himself.

Kevin soon went out, repairing a recently shut off generator before he called for a Deepdrill, entering it with the baby.
The operator looked behind himself. "Where.... Are the others...?"
Kevin refused to take his eyes off the young boy. "...Some sick fuck killed them... Rachel was giving birth... Those idiots could never control themselves... And that was the result... Her screams attracted the bounders. I went out to fight them... And through all the commotion someone went and killed them all...."
The operator stayed quiet for a moment. "Holy shit... ....was it the same person who shut the generator off?" He asked.
Kevin's eyes lit up. "This... This whole thing was... Planned...?!"
The operator started the deepdrill's engine. "Just... Hold on for a minute. We'll find who did it. First... What are you gonna do with the kid? I mean... Shit, his... His family HAS to be dead..."
Kevin's look softened, looking at the baby as he held him. "I'll take him."
The operator took a deep breath, clearly trying to just calm him down. "Annnd.... What... What about his name? Got uh... Any idea about that? ...Fuck, man this is so... So messed up..."
Kevin thought for a moment. "....Faust. His mother was Ytreshi..."
The operator sighed. "I just hope you know what you're doing with him..."

7 years later, Faust would wander off on his own, finding himself on the shores of Erisia. As he walked around, a bandit snuck up on him.
The bandit slammed his greataxe against him - only for a set of bones, almost like a giant ribcage to grow out of Faust's back, stopping the attack. "What... What in the hell...?!"
Faust turned around, glaring at the bandit with purple eyes. "That's not very nice..." He said, pulling a bone scythe off of his back that was larger than his body.
The bandit backed up. "Uhm... Guys...?!"
Faust swung at him, though the bandit easily parried it, since the child was slow with such a large weapon. As a second bandit, with a longsword swung at Faust, the young boy suddenly twisted the scythe around, stabbing it into the other bandit, interrupting him.
The second bandit backed up, blood pouring from his side. "W-What the hell is wrong with this kid..?!"
A third bandit snuck up on Faust. "His back has an unprotected spot, dumbasses!" As the third bandit tried to stab his knife into Faust's back.

Suddenly, a spear stabbed into the knife-wielding bandit's neck, killing him almost instantly. A blonde man pulled the spear out before glaring at the other two bandits. "I suggest you leave before you end up like him." He said.
The two bandits scrambled away before Faust turned to the man. "Thanks...?"
The man narrowed his eyes. "As if anyone could mistake you... Faust Ytreshi. You snuck away from home. Again." He said.
"Well they had a ship lying around, it's not my fault they didn't stop me." Faust responded.
The man sighed. "My name's Pat. I know your dad... Known him for a long time. I'll take you back to him. .... Why'd you sneak away in the first place?" Pat asked.
Faust's bone ribcage dusted away while he put his scythe on his back. "Dad's always after some bounty hunter or whatever... Last time, he nearly died. Apparently that bounty hunter wants me, not him. So I figured I'd kill him. That way, he can't hurt me or dad." Faust replied. "Now it's my turn for questions. How'd you recognize me?"
Pat sheathed his spear. "Your magic. They call it bonemend.... No one's ever done it before."
Faust shrugged. "Dad said it's Ironsing."
"...and you use the metals inside bones to control them. I know. Everyone who talks to Kevin asks him about it. That includes me, heheh..." Pat responded.

Pat soon called Kevin over with Matthew's help, who was nearby. After a heavy scolding, Kevin took Faust home. It's true that a certain hooded figure has made several attempts on Faust's life, but each time, he slips away before they can catch him. However, when Kevin is near, he never appears. All we know of this John Doe, is that he possesses the ability to use Shadowcast along with a Crypt Blade.
