Chapter Five
    The three try not to give in as her whimpers turn to cries when instead of picking her back up, she is stripped down to her diaper and put back on the table to start on the easier parts of the exam such as height and weight among other things. Luckily, Niall doesn't seem to mind this part as much as she's still got a little grin on her face as she plays with Carol's fingers while giggling at Steve's silly faces.
    Soon enough, the easy part of the exam is wrapped up and Bruce sighs as he knows what's coming next. Steve and Carol both keep Niall distracted as Bruce turns to the nearby counter with Niall's medical files in order to prepare all the necessary vaccines she needs. It was going pretty well for a while until Bruce came over with the first of three needles and tried to explain what would be happening. Niall, of course couldn't understand him in this headspace, had ended up crying and screaming at the sight of the needles. Immediately, Carol grabbed her and bounced her on her hip while making shushing noises to calm her down while Steve stood nearby and began running his hand through strawberry blonde curls in the way he knows comforts her. Luckily, this seemed to distract Niall long enough for her to forget about the reason for her previous distress. Bruce took the chance to spread some numbing cream on the injection sites before breezing through the three syringes. All three of the adults sighed in relief knowing it was all over now and they can focus on making sure Niall is happy and healthy. Bruce pulls out a box of character bandages and brings them over to Niall. He holds up different characters until Niall chooses the three she wants protecting her new battle scars. In the end she ends up picking Nat's black widow, Tony's Iron Man, and Clint's Hawkeye, much to their dismay. The three caregivers are sure they'll never hear the end of it from those three as soon as they catch sight of the new accessories. "I'll be back in a few minutes. I'm just gonna drop these off at the lab so Jarvis can get started on analyzing them while we go over everything else." Bruce explains while holding up the one blood sample he took before turning his attention to Niall with a soft smile. You could practically see the heart eyes as he looks at her on one of his pack member's hips like she was made to be there. "And you my adorable little bean, get to pick a sticker since you're too small for a lollipop for how brave you were for your mommy and daddies today." Bruce explains to the little like she understands him like this. She stares blankly with her fingers in her mouth as Bruce moves over to one of his cabinets and pulls out a containers. He brings the two containers over to Niall who lights up at all the colors. She ends up with a blue raspberry lollipop and a Captain Marvel sticker with Thor and Scarlet Witch in the background, which Carol can't help but grin smugly at the other two as they visibly pout at Niall's sticker choice.
    As Bruce leaves the room, Carol takes a seat on a nearby chair with Niall on her lap, leaning her on her chest to help her stay upright and Steve moving to the chair next to her. Steve catches Niall's hand with the sticker with a smile plastered across his face as she goes to try and eat the sticker. He quickly peels off the back and puts it in the middle of her onesie. As Niall goes to look down at it, Steve gently flicks Niall's nose as he pulls his finger away which in turn causes Niall to let out a round of giggles as she chases the finger with her own small hands. The sound makes a smile break out on the two remaining caregivers faces and Steve brings his hand back to Niall who grabs it and starts sucking on his fingers. He can't help the cringe as Niall does so and Carol lets out a quiet chuckle as she helps Steve get his fingers back and replaces them with a pacifier she had stashed in her pocket. The three sit in a comfortable silence while they wait for Bruce to come back. Between the slight bouncing, body heat from Carol, and the exhaustion from the day's activities, Niall was drifting off before Bruce could even return. When he does, he immediately notices the sleeping kiddo in Carol's arms and adjusts himself to be a little quieter. "Ok, so I was going to go over Niall's results however I think that she would sleep better in her crib or bassinet or something and this way we can go over everything with the others." Bruce explains in a whisper as he subconsciously lets his hand run through Niall's hair. The other two nod along before grabbing their things and heading over to the elevator.
    Once the three make it to the common room, they put Niall back in her rocker and cover her with a thin blanket to let her doze and magically, one by one, the rest of the team begin to emerge from their various hiding spots. Just like Bruce, they take notice of the sleeping baby almost immediately and make sure they aren't too loud coming in. Even Thor, makes an effort to reduce his noise pollution as he notices the sleeping baby.
    After the rest of the team is present, Bruce guides them all into the kitchen so they can all talk without waking up the baby. Bruce takes one more glance through the open doorway to both make sure she is still sleeping while also being sure they can see her from where they are. "So I was gonna go over this in the medbay but I decided that I don't feel like repeating it more than once and let me finish talking before you come up with any questions. According to her tests and medical records, everything seems relatively normal aside from a couple of things that are kind of concerning. First off, she is severely underweight which is easily fixable now that we're here to help make sure she gains the weight and keeps the weight. We just need to make sure that she is eating right and I'm also recommending something like pediasure twice a day, most likely with breakfast and dinner. Once your milk comes in, that will also be a big plus since breast milk is known to have more nutritional value.I'm also just saying this next part as a precaution since she obviously can't go on missions in her headspace, but she should avoid anything that could use up more calories than she's eating like missions and training. Second off, I noticed a few inconsistencies in her medical records and previous exams. Her x-rays and MRIs show previous injuries and based on the way they healed, they were never attended to correctly if at all. Based on the injuries, if I had to guess, there was abuse involved. On top of that, any record of her before SHIELD and the avengers is nonexistent so it's very possible that she never got to see a doctor before coming here. The injury I'm most concerned about though is her right knee, because it was left to heal on it's own, it healed improperly and now I'd be surprised if it didn't hurt to use it." Bruce explains while trying to keep his own emotions in check as he takes in the changing emotions on his mates' faces. Tony sighs and puts his head in his hands while taking all the new information in. "Where are her parents? Who had her before us? Who hurt our Niall?" Yelena fires off question after question with a clenched jaw and fists. Everyone is silent, taking in the questions as they all realize they don't actually know the answer to them since Niall refused to talk about it and Fury had that information redacted from her file. "How do we not know her past?" Bucky questions out loud. "Technically, Fury does." Maria jumps in quickly. The group exchanges glances as they decide what to do now. "JARVIS, get Fury over here ASAP. And order some pediasure to be delivered." Tony adds as an afterthought. "Tony, we can't just ask him to release that information. Niall would never forgive us, not to mention she would have told us if she wanted us to know." Steve tries to explain. "Listen Capsicle, that's my- our little out there. The little some of us have been waiting decades to find. Now I find out that someone has been hurting her, I'm getting that information and I'm finding those sons of bitches and I'm going to make them regret the day they even thought of laying a finger on her. So you can either leave so you can't hear anything or you can stay and make those assholes pay." Tony rants at him with a heated glare as the others nod along with what he is saying.
    Steve sighs as he weighs the two options. On the one hand, he doesn't want Niall to hate him but on the other hand, he knows exactly what Tony and the others are feeling and can't help but want to make the people who hurt his little girl feel the pain they made her feel. "Fine, but if Niall finds out then I'm naming you the ringleader." Steve decides.
