"A chance," you reply almost instantly. The question has caught you off guard and the answer is the first thing that pops into your head. Although you have no idea what you're getting yourself into, you can already tell that Daniel would be a more interesting partner than Cassandra or the frey twins, so you're willing to risk a lot to gain his trust.
"A chance? I don’t want to waste my time and effort on a chance to win your loyalty." Daniel scoffs, his smile turning to a harsh frown as he crosses his arms. "Tell me something that's certain... something you are willing to do for me to prove your loyalty."
But then you continue
"I'll give you a chance, I'll be anything you want: spy, your partner in crime, Whatever you want, I can do it"
The smirk returned to Daniel's face as he thought over your offer. "my 'partner in crime...'" Daniel raised a skeptical eyebrow as he glanced over you, "What exactly do you mean by that?"
You pause
"You know what I like better than talking?" You ask with a smirk, grabbing Daniel's hair and pulling him down for a kiss on the lips, "act"The question catches Daniel off guard and he lets out a soft sound as his lips are quickly captured by yours. He doesn't how to react but he finds himself liking it to a guilty degree
Once your lips part you wink at him "Whatever you want, boss" holding Daniel by the hair with one hand while continuing to caress his cheek with the other, "I'm an open book, so write some ideas on my pages."
Daniel grins at your comment, his eyes locked on yours as he raises his other hand to cup the side of your face. "If you're willing to do whatever I want, I have a few ideas..." Daniel leans in close to say a whisper into your ear, making sure to keep your grip on his hair. "Do you think you can handle all of them?"
"I think I can handle a few" you say mockingly. You're not as indifferent to Daniel's kiss as you seem.
"Oh, just a few?" Daniel pulls away from you, his eyes filled with amusement. "Maybe I can change your mind." He gives you a grin as you run your fingers through his long, messy hair.
"What do you want to know about me?" You ask sincerely, your earlier confidence fading and giving way to a thoughtful, more honest demeanor. You're not feeling threatened by Daniel but are curious about him, because there is always a story behind every student that arrives hogwarts.
"I want to know what your story is," Daniel answers simply. He leans back again, releasing himself from your hold as he crosses his arms in front of you. There's a hint of frustration in his tone as he continues. "What's brought you this far? What's your pasr? from the moments you remember and from the ones you don't?"
"Let me guess," you shrug your shoulders and hold out your hands with a smile, "You're wondering why, of all people, I would be interested in digging everyone's history? I've had a hard life. I have some pretty dark secrets, and I make no promises that I'll stay out of trouble. But hogwarts is the first place where I've had a chance to find myself, and to really do it the way I want to do it. That's worth it, in my mind. So whatever you want to throw at me... I can handle it."
"Dark secrets?" Daniel's eyes narrow at hearing that. "That sounds like a conversation for another time," he mutters as he looks away. His gaze moves to the window, taking in the view and considering his next question. "You said that this was the first chance you've had to find yourself. Were you searching for who you are for a long time?"
You don't know where to start, really
"I used to... I used to be a good person, I think, but things have changed. I did what I had to do to survive, and now I'm paying for it. Life isn't easy for anyone"
That's a story I'm all too familiar with. Daniel nods somberly. "I know that all too well." He takes in a deep breath, turning back to look at you as he continues. "And... you've done what you've had to do in order to survive? Nothing more?" He gives you a questioning look as he tries to understand the truth to your words.
You look at the windows and look back at Daniel, sighing.
"I'm not someone to be ashamed of, but I'm not someone to be proud of either. And if I'm going to 'help' you, you should know that."
Daniel frowns at your words, his own mind filling in the blanks of what it could mean. He tries to stay composed and not jump to any conclusions, but his own past is still too present for him to do that. "How bad are we talking?"
Silence settles between both of you until you speak again
"Did I mention... I'm quick?" You Say with a smile, trying to show off a bit
"Look." You lean forward suddenly, grab Daniel and push him to the ground, then jump on top of him. a little clumsy, but you got enough speed and confidence to pull off the maneuver. "Heh." You look at Daniel with a smirk "you didn't see that coming."Daniel's eyes widened in surprise as you pushed him to the ground and leapt on top of him. It takes him a second to realize that you're demonstrating your speed and he can't help but smirk as he looks up at you.
"Heh," he mumbles, "alright I admit it. You are quick. I didn't see it coming."
…
Silence again
The smile disappears from your face as you speak more seriously.
"I think my biggest fear is that someone I considered my friend will betray me, that all my love and effort will be for nothing. Just... Losing the illusion of love, that would break me beyond repair. And the worst thing is that it happened once."
"I'm all too familiar with that fear..." Daniel mumbles as his eyes trail upward to your face. He doesn't say anything else because even thinking about betrayal hurts more than he can bear. Instead, his gaze lingers on your lips for a little bit longer before moving upward once again. He holds your gaze before speaking once more. "I know this might seem sudden, but..." Daniel takes a deep breath and continues. "I think I might be starting to…"
