Perrie Louise Edwards was born on 10 July 1993 and is from South Shields in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear. Her parents names are Alexander Edwards and Deborah Duffy. Perrie has an older brother named Jonnie.Perrie attended St Peter and Paul RC Primary School in South Shields.
Perrie originally intended to start a performing arts degree before finding success as part of Little Mix in the X factor 2011. She always thought that she had a good voice at school, but because of a lack of any real singing ambition always tried to be at the back during school productions.
Perrie sang You Oughta Know by Alanis Morisette during her first audition in Glasgow and received praise from Kelly Rowland, who described her voice as "Craazy, yo!!" Tulisa wasn't as complimentary about Perrie's audition saying that she liked her, but wasn't madly in love with her. Louis didn't "get" Perrie's audition at all (no surprise there.....), prompting Kelly to ask Louis "what didn't you get???????
Perrie was originally placed in a 4 piece band named "Faux Pas" with fellow future Little Mix member Jesy Nelson. Faux Pas were unsuccessful in progressing as a group, but Perrie and Jesy were asked to form a new 4 piece band named "Rhythmix" with Jade Thirlwell and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
Perrie is considered by the press to be the unofficial lead singer of Little Mix. According to her Little Mix bandmates, she is the lazy one who really doesn't like mornings which has earned her the nickname "Hippy Mix"! During an Xtra Factor episode, the girls revealed also that Perrie does a fabulous baby goat impression!
Perrie reported musical influences are Michael Jackson and Steve Perry from the American rock band Journey. Currently Perrie is reported in the press as being in a relationship with Zayn Malik from One Direction.
