"It'll be okay"
"...It'll be different this time"
"Your overreacting..."
"It's all in your head..."
"I love you..."
The whispers didn't stop, they only got worse when she was alone with her thoughts. It was suffocating all the emotions rushing in at once. Anger. Sadness. Disappointment. Doubt. She was lying in bed watching the lights dance in the darkness with the constant lightning striking the sky. It should have been a peaceful night, but it was disrupted by the intrusive thoughts that always crept out of the depths of her mind. The constant reply was the past conversations that unfortunately led to the separation of her relationship. It made her infuriated with not just the person but with herself as well. With a deep sigh she closed her eyes and tried to separate and better grasp her feelings to hopefully escape this menacing cloud of deafening emotions she was feeling. Alone it was a constant struggle but in the public eye of friends and family, you wouldn't have known unless it was expressed, or the mask cracked enough to be shown. The mindset was to just lie and keep up appearance but that's how we got to the point we're at now...heartbroken and betrayed...chasing lies and nostalgia... Lies were nothing but harmful fabrications to maintain this blissful ignorance of nostalgic happiness. There were warning signs but between nostalgia and gaslighting those warning signs were quickly dispersed. As you lay here brokenhearted you maintain the illusion you fine and capable of being that strong individual that you've always been when being realistic you are suffering at the hands of the what if, where did it go wrong, what could have been done differently...You are stuck in your head just another incident to add to the collective life disappointments that will haunt you constantly whether you think or not. It's okay to feel the emotions but how long does it last? How long will you ponder about past events?
The lightning continued to light up the room and it was the calmest sound ever. The whispers started to ease but one stuck out more than the others. Could it have been an imagination or the answering of my own impending questions. Either way, the voice made sense as she turned to look out the window to see the lightening dancing in the sky. "Everything takes time. It's based on your resilience to stay strong and be happy for yourself. You must be strong for you, it's okay to be sad and heartbroken but we can't stay here forever. We must keep going." She just stared and sighed speaking out loud to only herself and the darkness. "Is there a remedy to a broken heart?" There was no sound, only silence, as the tears began to pebble to the surface. The answer was something she wanted to avoid but knew she needed to face for herself and her well-being. "There are always remedies but some take longer than others. You're still here and that's what matters. You're strong even in your weakest moments. Some things are not meant to last no matter how hard we try to mend and fix the connection. You tried and that's what matters. The question to ask now is what will we do now?"
The voice said it peace and stopped leaving that lingering question to be answered with no time limit... The woman slowly sat up and wiped her tears and just offered a smile and softly said," We'll just keep moving forward"
