The world of Nadir is a fantasy world created by me to be the setting of multiple stories and long sets of lore. This world is rather complicated and has a lot going on in it at once. So for those of you who are joining in with this book as your first one taking place in the world of Nadir, here is a quick little summary of the lore/magic systems so you can hopefully be a little less confused:
(You don't have to read any of this in order to read the following tales, it just might be easier if you have a background.)
Nadir is an entire planet ruled by a single king who claims to be higher than all of humanity. He is unchallenged in power and might. Nobody is able to face him in battle, and as such he holds ultimate control over the throne.
Of course, such an absolute monarch would not exist without people rebelling, and in light of a large event called the Taxing which has just occurred, people are ready for change.
Change, however, doesn't come without struggle and manpower. So a man and his wife decide to host a large Academy designed to train up soldiers and mages for war against the High Crown. This rebellion swells as tons of people living in poverty or fear join in hopes of change for the better. With troops amassing, the king is forced to fight back, or grow more in power to maintain his place on the throne. Fortunately for him, he foresaw such a rebellion coming before the spark was ever even lit. Planning ahead, he created a weapon even more powerful than he could ever hope to become...
(The rest of the events that follow this unfold in the multiple stories told.)
The people of Nadir could be one of three Tiers. These Tiers were mage, warrior, and scout. Tiers, almost more like classes, were something you were born into and could not change. The mage tier allowed one to manipulate the elements around them for either combat or technical reasons. The warrior tier gave one extreme strength, vitality, reaction time, and the ability to fight mass battles incredibly well. The scout tier allowed one to run at incredible speeds, jump higher, have increased accuracy, and better stealth capabilities.
All of these tiers have one thing in common, they all have a central power source. This power source is the soul. A person's soul could grow with age and training, and could be bent to accommodate for powers given by a Tier. If someone were to expend all of the energy contained within their soul, they would instantly die. Because of this, the soul is also a good way of checking someone's life force.
