CHAPTER ONE

Beverly stared out of her office window, thinking how much she loved the office space she purchased on the 30th floor, in a brand new high rise down town Brickle. She loved Miami and she was glad she decided to relocate. Long gone were the days of her and Teddy nickle and dimming it on the streets of Chicago. Those days were over, finally, her and Teddy had enough money to live the good life they both dreamed about as kids. Growing up in the hood of Chicago had it's share of trauma, and there was enough of that to go around. She liked it here and she thought about staying for an unspecified amount of time. Her online publishing company was doing very well and she was closer to the water, because she loved the ocean. She loved sailing, and eating good food. She was finally in a place where she could finally settle in and stay off the radar. After all she was the one that helped masterminded the plan to take Reynaldo Gutierrez down in an undercover plot to secretly confiscate 10 million dollars of his money and the plan was a total success. It had been 2 years since her role in his demise and it still hadn't been safe enough for her to breath freely. Her child hood friend and partner in crime Teddy had been MIA for 3 months and she was starting to worry. He never let three weeks pass without some type of communication let alone three months. She had to find out what was up with him and she had become a little uneasy about it.

She pulled the cell phone out of her purse and said sternly to the I phone 6 plus, "Call Teddy", "Calling Teddy" her phone repeated back to her. She let it ring a good five times before it went to voice mail again. " T you are starting to worry me, what the hell is up with you, its been almost 3 months, you know how to reach me, if I don't hear from you in 24 hours, I'm calling your momma" She quickly hung up the phone and sat for a moment in thought, tapping her fingernails on the shiny lacquered desk. What the hell is he up to, she said quietly to herself. She stood up, quickly grabbed her Range Rover Key and her clutch and exited her office. Something was going on with Teddy and she didn't' have a good feeling about it at all.

Beverly Davies, was a tall woman who stood about 5 ft. 9 in. She had thick black curly hair and her hazel eyes were piercing. She was very athletic and her body reflected the hard work she put in at the gym. She was a perfect ten, some might say. She spoke very eloquently when she had too, but she was also a little hood too. After all she grew up on the rough streets of Chicago and it wasn't pretty. She was the second oldest girl and she had four brothers, two of which died by means of gun violence. She hadn't spoken with older sister Chana in over 5 years and it was best that way. She learned early on with the life style she lived, causalities were never good when they were your own family members, so the more distance she put between them the safer they would be. Teddy was like a brother to her and now she had reason to fear the worst. After all Teddy played an integral role in our taking down Reynaldo Gutierrez and that alone made him a target. They took down someone really big in the drug trade and there was still some speculation about who the culprits really were. Beverly had laid low for the last two years, she was careful, done everything right. Her off shore accounts were stable, no trace, and her assets were secure.

Beverly walked up to her front door and quickly noticed her door slightly ajar. She had locked the door this morning, so how could this have happened. She paused a minute, scanned the area and immediately dialed 911 from her cell phone. Looking around things had been totally disrupted and she knew someone had been in her home. She felt violated. " Yes operator, I need a unit out to 2450 North West 24th  Street, somebody broke into my house" please hurry, she said pleading with the dispatcher. "Alright Ma'am, do not go into the house in fact please go back to your car, I have a unit on the way, is there anyone around the area? what is your name?" "Are you injured?" "No I am not injured, but I am a little scared, can you please hurry", Beverly said in a shaky voice. "OK Ma'am just stay on the line with me until the units arrive, the dispatcher said informatively. Beverly, paused a minute and took a deep breath, she thought about all she had been through, the things she did to get what she wanted in life. She thought about Teddy and what lengths they went to, to cover their tracks and all of the things that came along with living the life style she longed for. What was she afraid of? she had seen so much worse than a little break in. Maybe it was some broke ass dudes from the Pork & Beans area she thought to herself, but how the hell?, she gathered herself and just then she heard the faint sound of sirens coming from the distance. She instantly pulled herself together and waited by her truck for them to pull in.

After an hour and 22 minutes, finally, the cops were gone. A police detective handed her his card, and told her if she had any questions to give him a call. "We will be in touch Ms. Davies" he said loudly, as he walked to the unmarked car parked in her driveway. Bev never did like the police. In her old hood where she grew up, if you talked to police you was a snitch, besides the fact that she hatched one of the most elaborate schemes in drug world history and actually got away with it, or at least that was the way it seemed. The U.S. could care less about someone like Beverly Davies, assisting with the demise of Reynaldo Gutierrez. Hell the world was better off without that murderous bastard. The DEA and the FBI are still baffled, but Beverly had other things to worry about. Her place was turned upside down and the police didn't seem to think it was random. But who would break into her place? further more what the hell were they looking for? No one but Teddy and 2 other people even knew she was in Miami. She covered her tracks well for the last 2 years and she didn't come this far to have shit blow up in her face. She pulled the portrait that hung over her fire place open slowly which revealed her safe, she dialed the combination, 8 right.... 36 left... 12 right, and click it was open. There it was, her 38 Caliber hand gun. She slowly took it out and cocked it back, as if it felt familiar to her. She had to look into it, make some calls, talk to a few people she could trust. If only she could find Teddy. She was just messing with him as far as calling his mamma, but she actually thought it might be necessary now. She thought to herself, give it one more day and then if nothing I'm calling his mamma for real. Teddy always told me, that if ever I could not find him, to call his mother, she would know how to find him. She looked at the screen on her cell phone and the time read; 6:45 pm, her stomach howled because she hadn't eaten all day. She looked around her house and thought about the mess she had to clean up. She called her alarm company, poured herself a glass of wine, and popped a lean cuisine in the microwave, as she headed upstairs to her bedroom to change, she wasn't gonna sleep well tonight, but she wasn't going to run from the home she loved so much either. She made sure the place was secure, turned on all the lights, made sure her security system was reset. She would clean the place tomorrow, or better yet call one of those made services and pay them to do it, after all she could afford it now and she intended on taking full advantage of every perk her money could buy.
