Chapter 3: Straydogs

[LUNA's POV]
Is it a dream?
Is he smiling?
Am I smiling?
It feels like I can face everything with him by my side.

This is the first time I've seen Ken smile that way and also cry. The joy of having a child is such a mystery. Something that I can't explain.

When I saw Kale, I know for sure that I've made the right choice. The negative feelings that I have harbored the past months against Ken eventually faded. I now see him as my partner in this challenge.

A partner that seems to have a shot in life. I wonder if...no. That's not possible. It is only because of Kale.

Ken cradled Kale with great care. The baby was deeply asleep in his arms.

This father figure surprisingly suits him.

We caught each other's eye and like a reflex, smiled at each other.

A knock was heard from the door. My mom opened it and two familiar people came inside.

The first one, my bestfriend, Angela and next to her was once the most important person in my life - Justin de Dios.

They both smiled when they saw me. They were about to hug me when they noticed Ken beside me sitting on the bed.

Justin's eyebrows furrowed. He looks confused while Angela looks shock.

When I learned that I was expecting a child, I was so nervous to let them know. Particularly Justin, he made it clear that he doesn't like me in a romantic way. Our fight sparked a rebellion in my heart. The reason why I didn't get into any relationship during high school was because of him. I thought we had something special going on but the truth is, he was falling for Angela the whole time.

Justin's reaction of my pregnancy was chaotic. He was furious of Ken but I made sure that it was my fault, not Ken's.

He was angry too that I kept it from him and even told him that I was with Pablo that time.

I guess that cemented a wall between us. Everything changed.

Angela was really supportive and always stayed to cheer me up. She was hopeful that Ken and I will work things out. She even told me that she thinks Ken likes me. Of course I shook the thought immediately. Not a chance.

Ken had a poker face when he saw them. He neither greeted or acknowledged them. He just dodged their stares and gave Kale to me.

Justin was staring at him with interest like he's seen a rare gem but undecided if it's precious or just trash. The only encounter they had was the day I told them I was pregnant. He confronted Ken and said a few embarrassing things out of anger.
