You're Not A Bodyguard

You have been given a new assignment and are sad because you will leave a little piece of your heart behind.  You feel it is wrong to forget them, the ones you cared for before.

So, against the Guardian Archangel's rules, you secretly journal all your previous charges, those that affected you the most for good or bad. You know you are not the first guardian angel who has chosen, although against orders, to hold onto the time with their charges. Thankfully, it has become the norm these last couple of hundred years.

You write in your journal your memories of your time with him. He touched your heart so much that you had to write about him.

You ponder over the last time you were with him and how much it hurt to leave. You start recalling the memories of him from the time he confessed he knew what you were back to the first time you met him.

You enter into your memories traveling steps already taken.

Several years after being assigned as Kim Taehyung's Guardian Angel, you follow him into his room, and he turns to you and says, "You're not a bodyguard."

"I'm not a bodyguard, that's right." You watch him look for something in his room. He goes through drawers and papers.

"You're a guardian angel."

"What makes you think I'm a guardian angel?"

He pauses in his search, "Your wings." then he goes back to searching.

"Guardian angels have wings different from other kinds of angels." He says.

You slightly nod as you know this to be true. You wonder, 'He has the human form of angel sight. Most lose that ability by the time they are adults.'

He stops searching and looks at you, "I have seen your wings before."

He grabs a piece of paper and exclaims, "Ah ha, found it!"

He holds up a drawn picture of you with your wings unfurled. You stumble back in shock at first, then move forward, taking the drawing and looking closely at it.

 "When did you draw this?"

"When I was young, it was you. I remember you. I could see your wings."

You start to smile, then ask, "So you know who I am, or more accurately, what I am?" You hand him back his drawing.

He says, "Yes," and with a bright, boxy smile, he steps close. "Will you show me your wings?"

He goes to stand behind you, expectingly waiting with the excitement of a child to see your wings unfurl.

You softly tell him, "Kim Taehyung, I will not unfurl my wings on command just because someone wants to see them."

"But I saw them when I was younger," pouts Taehyung.

You nod, "Yes, you did. Young children can easily see us and our wings," you explain.

You reach out, telling him, "But here, take hold of my hand."

Since you will not release your wings where someone may witness it, you will grant him this special gift, knowing that you are no longer his Guardian Angel after tonight.

He does so trustingly, and you bid him, "Now close your eyes and think of me."
