I dreamt of a strange scene, there were people everywhere, each wearing a mask more intricate than the last. I stood in a ballroom. It was a vision of elegance, truly. Men dressed in fine suits and women in beautiful gowns surrounded me.
I looked down to find myself in an amazing dress with ruffles that swayed like waves of silk. I peered around and found only masked faces, but their eyes were strange, empty even.
In the middle of the room stood a man. His stance was that of dominance. He watched everyone dance silently with a smile that crept though a hole at the bottom of his mask.
His suit looked more costume-ish than the rest. With the colors and shape of his form he looked more like a puppeteer than a suitable dancing partner.
I forgot that I was staring and was startled when I realized his eyes were locked on mine. My whole body shivered from the intensity of his gaze.
His mask had a cartoon face with a gaping mouth pulled up into a sadistic smile. The eye slits were extremely small, to the point where his eyes looked like black pits.
Red and black feathers covered the top of the mask making him look taller than any other man in the room. He silently snapped. Everyone who had been dancing around him stopped and moved to reveal a path for him, then continued on dancing. My gaze met his and I immediately regretted it.
Slowly he walked toward me, seemingly floating over the granite floors. He stopped swiftly in front of me, looking down onto my face. He reached out a hand and lightly pulled my chin up to meet his eyes.
"You aren't wearing a mask, darling. Though I'm sure no one has noticed,"
his grin turned to an annoyed scowl. "Extremely unobservant they are, they just dance and sing. Never holding a nice conversation. Its like I'm the only one among them that has a brain.""why would you say that?" I asked, "they seem to be having a great time."
His eyes peered into mine and he bent down a bit to be closer to my face.
"You see, they are no fun. Ive grown tired of manipulating them. Though it was fun at first, its now very anti climactic." his eyes were searching for my reaction to his strange words.
"Manipulating them?" I asked. Surprised by his statement.
His grin grew wide as he whispered into my ear,"Would you like to see?"
I gulped at his tone and realized even if I didn't, I would.
He turned towards the crowd and said in a deep, loud voice,"Everyone, we have new guest. We must put on a show for her. How about we play a few games?"
Every one scurried out of the room and came back with an assortment of objects. A basin filled with water, a rather thick long rope, multiple knives, and a bag of apples.
I was extremely confused to see all that random junk in the elegant room. Dumb founded I looked up to see him looking at them all scurrying around with the same tired look on his face.
As soon as he noticed me looking he turned to me and quickly smiled. The smile was not warm like any of Roberts though, it was cold and hard.
Turning to the crowd he stretched out his arms and shouted,
"Let the games begin!"
