Under the cold temperature of December, the jingles of bells, laughter of children and most of all.....the meals they ate...Hannah Wiles was in her room, reading the most enthralling novels about creatures the world has yet to see.
The scent of baked ham encircled her, but it wasn't enough to pull her out of the world she placed herself in,the world of reading.
"Anna!" Her mother called for her, but received no answer.
"Anna!!"
Hannah flew up just enough to jerk the bed, she sighed and placed the book face-down on her bed before coming downstairs to meet her mother, Elizabeth.
"Hannah, didn't you hear the first time I called you?" Elizabeth's eyebrows furrowed.
"No, mother.... apologies " Hannah said.
"Have you seen your father? Gosh, Earl has never been out this late" Elizabeth had a worried expression.
"It's probably nothing, plus, he had to drop off Mr. Muller's sculpture." Hannah replied
"Ah, your right" Elizabeth shook her head and took a plate from the cabinet. " Well then, dinner's ready." She added.
Their town of Reinswood was a small and cozy place, peaceful and silent, neighbors came together for festivities and holidays and more so, for birthdays and anniversaries.
They all worked together as a team to provide for each other, to look out for each other, except for Cynthia and Robert Finnley, they were a pair of the worst humans, selfish and evil, Cynthia had three children with Robert and two seemed to be missing the day they were born.
Samson was the only child they had now, he was around Hannah's age and mysterious, he seemed to have a great amount of hatred towards his parents and avoided them during every event that was held but he also somewhat cared for them also, Hannah and Samson were best of friends and emotional support for each other and seemed to bring out the best in each other.
About a week later...
Earl was still missing and nobody had seen him, he was last seen in a striped shirt and dark jeans, mission posters was everywhere and Elizabeth was on the edge of several breakdowns.
Hannah was bothered by the disappearance but it didn't affect her as much as her mother was affected.
By this time, the whole town that was labelled as 'peaceful' was now struggling to keep it's name.
Everyone could feel the strangeness in the air like danger was imminent.
That's when Hannah went out one night alone, she met Samson in the woods as they both tried to find Earl..even a clue.
The talked their way into an opening, unsure of how far they were from home.
Hannah was desperate to find her father, since Hannah helped Samson through everything he had been through."I don't know Hannah...you...always understood me." Samson whispered with a smile " Ever since we were children...when I was lonely you comforted me, I don't think I could make up for that" he added.
"It's alright, after being the sole survivor of the grip of your parents" Hannah said.
"Hey, can I tell you something?" Samson stopped and looked at Hannah with serious eyes.
"Yeah" Hannah looked over at him.
" My mother....is...well, she goes out on nights, like nights when the moon is red..with this look in her eyes, it's been recent and she carries this bag with her and then she disappears, it's like she's in a trance." Samson says, he rubs his neck. " Heh, you probably don't believe me.. but Reinswood has changed, Anna." He adds
At that moment a ray of light came from above them, in the sky, the moon was as red as blood.... about four huge entities pierced the sky and fell silently on the ground, the two watched in utter shock and disbelief as the creatures walked among them, Samson pulled himself out of it and lifted Hannah, pulling her until she too was out of the shock, they ran into an old cabin that was nearby...the sounds of crashing could be heard.
-
"What's that!?" Hannah said with terror in her low voice."I don't...know" Samson said.
Cynthia walked out into the open, that same look that Samson described a bag in her hand as the humanoids looked at her.
"You promised a full human..." One of the creatures growled.
" Oh dear Demphius...I apologize...your last order had been in weeks..Earl was supposed to be enough! What of my children, did your folk eat them already!?" Cynthia said.
Both Samson and Hannah looked at each other. Earl? Children?! What is Ma talking about!?
"Your children were mere placeholders, woman! The last town we wiped was obedient. You have to hold your ground and keep your end of the deal, we only pity you, we can take all of these people-"
The creature stopped and looked over to the cabin, he pulled out a gadget from his side and pointed it to the cabin.
"Humans..." It growled hungrily.
Quick thinking drove them out of the cabin...They ran as fast as they could, the gadget beeped and the creature walked towards the cabin, smashing it open and finding nothing.
"Find me 4 full bodies by sundown and I won't take your head."
Samson and Hannah ran up to their houses.
Earl was Dead.
