Prologue
I was braiding my hair when I hear my mother’s footsteps walking towards my room and her mind was not at ease. Something seems to be bothering her but I cannot quite put my finger on it. I turned around as soon as she pushed my bedroom door open.
“Ileana,” she spoke in a whisper.
“Mother,” I answered respectfully as I walked towards her almost completely silent against the limestone floor.
We embraced and we walked towards my bed. I took a sit at the end of my bed while my mother stood by my side, looking down at me with worried eyes.
“Is something bothering you, Mother?” I asked softly, holding her hand to my face.
I need you to go to Rivendell. There will be a council held and your presence is needed,
Mother answered in her mind as I have a gift of reading minds and I have been doing so since I was seven.
“Of course, Mother. I shall go tomorrow morning, at first light.”
Mother placed her hand on my shoulder and kissed the top of my head before leaving me to pack my things. My father…I’ve never seen him before. He is of Man, whereas Mother is an Elf which means I’m half elf. Every elf in Lothlorien knows about my true self.
After Mother left, I got up and started packing my things. My maiden, Myra, walks in and offered me her help to pack my things. She is only 18 years old while I was 20. She started packing my clothes and daggers into my bag. I didn’t even have to do anything. Myra put aside my hunting clothes at the end of my bed for which I’ll be wearing tomorrow.
“My Lady, I’ve packed your bag and laid your clothes for tomorrow. Is there anything else you need?” Myra asked politely as she drew the curtains.
“No, that’s all. Thank you, Myra, for everything,” I said, walking towards her.
I took her hand and gave her something; a necklace. She gasped, quickly shoving it back to my hand.
“I can't accept this gift,” she said hastily.
“I insist. Take it. You’ve been such a good maiden and a friend. I couldn’t ask for someone better,” I smiled.
She thanked me and bowed before leaving. I lay in bed wondering what the council are all about and I who will meet and what could be so important that I have to attend. Before I knew it, I fell deep into the slumber night.
“Honey, it’s time to wake up,” my mother’s angelic voice was heard.
I groaned a little before blink awake. “Morning Mother.”
She stepped aside while I head for the bathroom. I scrubbed and buff my body because I’m travelling for some time. I change to my hunting clothes; tunic and leather pants. I slipped into my boots, carried my bag, and took my quiver and bow along with my sword.
I walked with Mother towards the Great Hall where my aunt and uncle, Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn were waiting. As I pushed the door open with ease, I saw the two of them standing up, walking towards us.
“My niece, Ileana,” Lord Celeborn embraced me. “Be safe,” he whispered.
Lady Galadriel slowly wrapped a cloak around me, pinning with a brooch made out of gold. She pulled me into a tight embrace, stroking my hair. Lady Galadriel always regarded me as her own daughter as she didn’t have any children.
May this cloak hide you from unfriendly eyes, my niece.
“Lady Ileana, it is time for you to ride for Rivendell. Your horse is ready,” Haldir spoke from behind.
