Start of Something New

Soft blue locks of hairs cascading down his forehead, hovering just above the golden pupils that seems to reflect the brightness of the sun itself, eyes focused at the piece of paper in front of him for a second before moving his fingers to write something on it. After a minute or so, the man leaned down on his chair in a relaxing posture before closing his eyes.

A bunch of papers stacked together as well as an empty cup of tea could be seen above the man's desk. He glanced at the window beside him, sunlight subtly hitting his face and illuminating his mesmerizing features.

The demon watching him just a few steps away couldn't help but be entranced by the scene, a faint blush appearing on his pale cheeks. Rimuru thought that he would've grown tired of his other secretary's weird antics by now but he still felt slightly uncomfortable, especially when the said demon was gazing at him so intensely.

"Diablo-kun, please stop staring at me like that..." The latter flinched at the sudden remark of his lord, appearing a bit embarrassed in front of him and apologizing profusely before bombarding him praises about this and that. Rimuru just held a sly grin and ignored the other's mumblings before he stood up and walked towards the giant window in his office.

A soft smile appeared in his lips as he overlooked his domain from above. It was a bustling place, different shops beside the road, businesses, the people were running errands from left to right and some could be seen chatting away and giggling at the hot topic of gossips. It was lively, he was pleased at the scene of the humans and monsters coexisting peacefully under his reign, something that Rimuru only dreamed before was now being portrayed at his sight.

'It sure is peaceful today.'

Rimuru thought, but deep inside he's quite troubled. He enjoys a tranquil, uneventful life just fine, but lately he feels stuffed up and can't help but crave for something exciting to happen.

"Ciel-san, what should I do?"

«Master... Should I start a war?»

"No, that's a bit... I'm bored but I'm not that bored, you know."

Rimuru sighed, he never would've imagine that a day like this would come. Perhaps it was also influenced by the fact that he can't age nor die, that his mind is deviating away from his human values.

When human nations started to prosper during the peaceful era, it also led to some troubles when they started getting arrogant, eventually forgetting what a demon lord is over time.

He remembers the rebellion that happened a few years ago. An arrogant human nation dared to start a war indirectly with his nation. He was not in a good mood at that time, so provoking him proved to be quite lethal when he decided to wipe out the nation off the map.

The humans and monsters alike feared him since then, and all the other nations who are trying to pick a fight with him at the time had to abandon any thoughts of usurping his throne lest they want to face his wrath and turn to dust.

'How many years has it been?'

Rimuru has already long lost track of the years since the last war. The old generation was replaced with a new generation, time moved forward and a lot of things changed. But he only grew stronger, and it didn't took long for him to feel weary in this world where everything was in the palm of his hand, the world he once deemed bright and full of excitement is slowly turning dull and colorless.

Once you reach the point in life where you had lived a life as long as mine, you're way of thinking will eventually change too and you'll understand what I feel, you naive bastard.

Guy's words rang inside his head repeatedly. He was afraid, scared that one day he might just lose interest at the things he used to love and get bored. What will happen then?

He looked over outside, the place he and his comrades have fought hard to protect. Someday, will he get tired at the sight of this too?

Being the strongest might be a curse after all. He felt alone at the thought.

«You're not alone Rimuru-sama, you'll never be.»

Rimuru felt comforted as Ciel's voice rang inside his head.

"That's right, you're here with me after all."

«I'll never leave your side, Rimuru-sama. And it's not just me, there are others who care about you too.»

Rimuru glanced at the other person in the room, Diablo's preparing a cup of tea quietly at the side. He felt guilty forgetting that he still has his comrades around him, not just Diablo but the others as well.

"Thanks, I'm feeling a bit better now."

«How about a change of scenery?»

Hmm?

«Well, actually, I kind of went exploring on my own when you were busy and stumbled upon a unique dimension.»

"A unique dimension? Hold up, what do you mean by you exploring on your own---"

«... Let's not sweat the details, the most important thing is to make sure you don't think of useless thoughts again.»

"Ciel, you--- ," Rimuru sighed in defeat. "Nevermind, were gonna talk about this later. Let's go back to this unique dimension you're speaking of first."

Ciel, glad that Rimuru is pushing aside the matter, went on to explain about what she found out during her sneaky expedition. After hearing Ciel's description, it piqued Rimuru's interest as well.

"I see why you're excited, will it be fine with just us?"

«Of course, I'm all you need Rimuru-sama.»

Somehow, there's a hint of possessiveness at Ciel's tone of voice in which Rimuru has decided to ignore, thinking to himself that it must be his imagination.

"Is that so, then what are we waiting for, shall we?"

«Let's go, Rimuru-sama!»

Beyond the galaxy, through the sea full of stars, a new adventure awaits him.
