My name is Melanie, and I work a dead end job at a local diner. To tell the truth, I hated every bit of it. Come to think of it, I hated a lot of things actually. But, as always, I reminded myself I was just doing this to make ends meet, and when I had saved up enough, I'd be out of this miserable job. But, unfortunately, that day was not today. I sighed, forcing myself to open the door to the diner and walk in.

Because it was nearly 5: 30 in the morning, the atmosphere was dark and kind of scary. And to add to it, nobody was here. So I practically ran to the kitchen, and punched in for the day. Walking out again, I walked to one of the tables, sat, and took out my phone, waiting for the restaurant to officially open, as I was about 30 minutes early. Scrolling through some boring articles, i stumbled upon an old article about the restaurant. Curious, I clicked on it. But, just as I was about to start reading, I heard the unmistakable jingle of nick's, my boss's, keys.

"Hey, !"
"..."
"So, how are you today?"
"..."

I kept my eyes on my phone. As usual, he was not able to get me to talk much. Sighing, he dropped his friendly smile and dejectedly walked to his office. I laughed, as it was funny seeing him trying to get me to open up to him. But I stopped laughing when I looked at my phone clock. It was 6:00. Time to open. I groaned and walked to the door and flipped the "closed" sign to "open." Waking to the counter, I waited for for the customers to start pouring in as they always did.

Then a few minutes later, joy, a regular customer came in. She had long and curly blonde hair. She took off her sunglasses and put them in her expensive looking purse. She walked up and ordered her usual, a coffee and some buttered toast. I rang her up and told her to take a seat and that her food would be out soon. She did as instructed, and I proceeded to walk to the kitchen to tell the chef, who came in a few minutes ago, to make the order.

I grabbed the now cooked food, and walked out to the tables. The cool air of the bright and early morning, as well as the sun starting to come up, making the sky a beautiful orange, at least made the atmosphere pleasant. That was until, she attempted a conversation. I faked a smile, and pretend to process what she was going on about. But in my mind, I was so bored. "So, then he says to me, why should I make my bed? And so I said, because I'm your mother!" And she started laughing and snorting.

I did a fake laugh and pretended to agree. I started to walk away, but you saw nick glaring at you through the window. I sighed quietly And turned around to see she was still going on about her son. Ugh... my eyes trailed off to the door when I saw someone walking in... the chime of the bell atop the door rang and the door closed, a man walking in.

He was tall, and wore jeans with a white button up shirt. He had dirty blonde hair and green eyes, and the man walked with a purpose, you could say that much. I admired his obvious fashion sense. I was glad he walked in, as I was able to tell joy, "sorry, I've gotta take this customer's order." She frowned and said, "oh alright." I gladly walked away to the counter and stared at the man who appeared to be staring at me, very obviously blushing. I rolled my eyes. I asked, "can I take your order si-"

"Ace." I was cut off. "The names Ace."

"Well then, Ace. Can I take your order?"

He ordered a large black coffee. I rang him up and he walked to a booth. I sighed. I had the feeling this guy was trouble, just by this small interaction. I sighed again, walking out from behind the counter, and headed to the kitchen. I grabbed the black coffee, and walked out to the table ace was sitting at. I handed him his coffee, and he started to drink, but as I started to walk away, he stopped me and said "Hey, the diner doesn't look especially busy, so wanna go grab an early lunch?" I turned to face him. "Sorry, Ace. My boss wouldn't DREAM of letting me leave early." I said, frowning. liking the idea he proposed, I perked up and said, "well, how about tomorrow?"

"It's a date." He smiled, exited that he got you agree. I walked away, slightly blushing. I thought he was trouble, but maybe he wasn't so bad after all.

I walked away, smiling for what seemed like the first time in years. Picking up my phone, I walked back to him, and we exchanged numbers. I waited for the next customer to come in, but nobody did. In fact, I saw almost no cars outside driving by. Sighing, I messed around on my phone until the alarm for the end of the day rang. I grabbed my purse, and walked out the door, opening the door to my car. I drove home, and flopped on the bed. My eyes grew heavy and I fell asleep pretty quickly, forgetting to even take off my uniform before falling asleep. Snoring gently, I begin to smile in my sleep somehow, happy about the day I just had.
