I sat in the bathtub, hearing the banging from the door grow harder and louder. My body jumped at every bang while my heart raced against every second. I looked over at the hinges on the door. Cracks began to form at every hard push of the locked door. With tears falling down my face, I turned to face the window that looked over a major street. I debated if I should just run against the glass and fall out, though it wouldn't be entirely possible with the fire escape stairs and ladder. They would obviously stop my fall, unless I was careless.
I made my way out of the tub and to the window. I struggled to open it, since it'd been over a year or two since it was last used and it had even been painted over. Out of sheer panic, I pulled the window as hard as I could and miraculously opened it. As soon as it opened, I rushed out and began to run down the multiple flight of stairs, hearing the roars of an angry man. Once at the bottom where the ladder was, I kicked the ladder down and climbed my way to the street below. About half way, I heard my name being angrily screamed from the bathroom I was in just a few moments ago. I missed a step out of panic and fell to the cement below. Luckily there was some trash from the restaurant at the bottom floor to soften the landing. Pain still went through my body as I stood up.
"Oh my god! Are you alright?" The owner asked, grabbing my arm to lift me up. He must've seen me through the window.
"Please. Call the police," I begged.
Once again, my named was screamed angrily, this time even closer.
"Please, he's trying to hurt me," I begged again.
Seeing the absolute fear in me, the owner took me into his restaurant and had his wife call them. I curled up in the farthest booth from the window as I watched him walk by the restaurant, then stop to stare right at me. He didn't seem to want to do anything, seeing a large crowd watching him. Some had their phones out, recording everything. It was perhaps about 5 minutes, maybe even more, that we just stared and waited for the police to arrive. It honestly felt like an eternity to waiting.
