" I can't run any further!" I hear behind me.
"You have to Miles!!! Keep running! " I yell at my friend Miles.
"Steph I can't!" He says stopping, the creatures gaining behind us.
I run to him and drag him forward.
" Steph no, just leave me"
" I can't Miles!, Don't you dare give up on me now!"
He falls to his knees.
I pull out my gun.
I shoot at the creatures, I know it won't kill them.
I have to keep running.
The street is slippery beneath my biker boots.
My hair damp from the misty rain.
My face cold.
But feeling warm tears stream down my cheeks.
A creature lunged at Miles.
Tearing skin from his neck.
Blood spilling onto the bitumen." Noooooooooo!!!!" I howl.
A creature looks up at me.
With blood and gore around its fangs.
I shoot at it, and hit it in the temple.
It's black blood explodes everywhere. But I just pissed it off.
I sprint.
I can't look back at Miles.
His body surrounded by these things.
Gnawing at his bones.I can hear the grinding from here.
Making chills run down my spine.
And bumps appear on my skin.I jog back to camp.
Keeping my guard up.
How am I going to tell Miles' parents, that I left their only remaining son to die.I see the light.
The cabin lit up like a lamp.
This was Miles' summer house.
I think back to the endless hours we spent together.
Sitting amongst the daisies.
The daisies are all shrivelled and dead now.
Nothing left of the past.
We only went into the city for my sisters asthma medication, and Miles was brave enough to come with me.
He wasn't a strong runner.
Or shooter.
He was academic.
But what use is being academic in this world?
