PART ONE
Semi-Finals——————————————————————
" y/n's point of view "
——————————————————————
WE STOOD BACKSTAGE watching another group, the Footnotes, performing a Michael Jackson song.
"My baby's always dancin' and it wouldn't be a bad thing, but I don't get no loving and that's no lie"
I adjusted the scarf around my neck that was feeling too tight. I was so nervous about performing again.
"We spent the night in Frisco at every kind of disco"
"Five minutes, Bellas." Benji spoke from beside me.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I whispered to Chloe.
"Be quick." She whispered back before whispering about the Footnotes and I moved further backstage before walking out into the hall.
It wasn't that I needed to pee, but the nerves were killing me. If we messed up the semi-finals we were out of the competition and Aubrey would be so mad.
I just needed some cool air, because it was really warm backstage and I felt like I was dying.
"Hey, what's going on?" I turned my head to see Jesse walking over, his hands in his pockets. "Are you okay?"
"Hm? Yeah. Yeah, I'm alright." I answered, walking over to him. "It's just really hot in there and it's not helping with the nerves."
He put his hands on my shoulders. "You're gonna do great."
He leaned forward and pressed a short kiss to my lips.
"You think we're gonna beat you guys?" I asked as a joke and he pretended to wince.
"I don't know, we'll probably crush you guys, but you could come second again."
I rolled my eyes and pecked his lips. "Whatever, Jess."
"Y/N, you guys are on in one minute." Benji stuck his head out the door from backstage. "Oh, hey, Jesse."
"Hey, Benji."
I walked down the hallway again and Benji held the door open for me. I walked backstage again just as the Bellas started walking on. I quickly sped up my steps and found my position, Aubrey shooting me a nasty look.
Aubrey blew the pitch pipe and did her usual count, then we all began vocalising the intro to The Sign.
"I got a new life you would hardly recognise me, I'm so glad" Chloe sang. The audience all looked bored. "How could a person like me care for you? Why do I bother when you're not the one for me?"
I glanced backstage where Jesse was watching with Benji. I gave him a pointed look and he shrugged.
"Ooh, is enough, enough?"
Chloe handed Aubrey the microphone and as she started to sing, so did Beca.
"This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof"
"I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes and I am happy now living without you, I've left you all alone"
"This time, maybe, I'll be bulletproof"
"I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign"
I noticed Beca's sudden singing threw a few of us off, catching us off guard. I looked to her, it was great that she was trying something new and trying to improve our performance, but I knew it wasn't a good idea.
"I saw the sign"
"Bulletproof"
"I saw the sign"
As we grouped in the middle of the stage, Aubrey glares at Beca, who had a small smirk on her face.
By the time we made it offstage, Aubrey was livid.
"What the hell, Beca?" She snapped, rushing to catch up to her. "Were you trying to screw us up?"
"Are you serious?" Beca asked.
"Newsflash. This isn't the Beca show."
"Okay, I'm sorry that I messed you up, but in case you hadn't noticed, everybody pretty much dozed off during our set." Beca had a point on that part.
"It's not your job to decide what we do and when we do it." Aubrey exclaimed. "Why don't you ask the rest of the group how they felt about your little improvisation?"
I glanced to Chloe, then Stacie. Everyone was avoiding eye-contact with Beca.
"Amy?"
Amy turned her head away from Ashley to look at Beca. "It was cool. But it did take us a little bit by surprise."
"Yeah, a lot by surprise." Aubrey was heated. "I told you she wasn't a Bella."
"Aubrey, don't." Chloe spoke.
"No, that's okay. You don't have to pretend you're allowed to have a say in the group, right?" Beca said to her.
"Your attitude sucks. You're a grade-A pain in my ass, and I—"
"Oh, come on, Aubrey." I spoke up, cutting her off. "Just leave her alone."
"Don't get me started on you, Y/N." Aubrey turned her attention to me. "You almost delayed our set because you were off hooking up with Jesse."
"Excuse me?"
"Woah, woah, Aubrey, calm down." Jesse's voice came from behind me, appearing out of nowhere. "We weren't hooking up, I swear."
"Jesse, please." I held my hand out asking him to stop. "But he's right. And if our two-minute long conversation is how long your hookups last, then I feel sorry for you."
Aubrey's body tensed and her face hardened before she spoke to Beca and I. "Get out. Both of you."
"Wha— Aubrey?" Chloe started again, but Aubrey didn't listen.
"Aubrey..." Jesse went to speak. "They—"
"Jesse, please just back off." I snapped. "I don't need your help, okay? Just stop. Please."
I didn't mean to yell or be mean, but I was so stressed and freaking out. Jesse looked hurt and I felt so bad.
"Trebles. Time to bring the pain." Benji said, coming over and I walked away.
"If this is what I get for trying..." Beca shrugged and followed after me.
I could hear Benji calling after us, but I ignored him. I didn't do anything wrong but try and defend Beca and she was kicking me out of the Bellas.
