the bus doors opened and gregory sat up. he made his way down the aisle and got off the bus, taking his phone out and scrolling through the chats. he sighed as he reread the message evan sent earlier, letting the others know about his absence.

his shoulders sagged as he clicked onto evan's contact, hovering over their personal messages. he thought of texting him, but would that be too weird? were they close enough? would evan think he was obsessed? he rolled his eyes and turned his phone off, shoving it back into the back pocket of his khakis.

"hey! why didn't you wait on me? are you in a rush or something?" elizabeth whined, running up to gregory and shoving him gently.

"oh, sorry liz. i forgot." gregory chuckled. he rode the same bus as evan and elizabeth, resulting in him sitting by evan and walking together. he had forgotten that elizabeth tagged along, butting herself in their conversation sometimes. he would be lying if he said it didn't bother him, but he dealt with it since elizabeth would just run over to her friends after the walk anyway.

"yeah right. you didn't sit with me on the bus, either! you were just sulking on your phone the whole time. does evan's absence really affect you that much?" she teased, grabbing chapstick from out of her small bag and applying it gently. gregory thought about her comment for a bit, maybe even overthinking it. it didn't affect him, it was just any normal day. right? whether evan was here or not, he was going to continue on with his day perfectly fine.

"helloooo? earth to gregory?" elizabeth waved her hand infront of his face. gregory blinked and shook his head, looking at the girl. "hm?" "were you listening?" "oh— um—" "ELIZIE!" a small girl with curly blonde hair waved elizabeth over, getting her attention. elizabeth's face lit up and she rushed over to her, giving her a hug. they started talking, leaving gregory to walk alone. he sighed, taking his phone out while he walked into the school building.

once he unlocked his phone, it was still showing him and evan's messages from before. he bit his lip and started typing something.
