Finally admitting to Dean that you made a deal with a crossroad demon ten years ago to save him
---
"Dean? Can... Can we talk?"
Dean looks at you. The insecurity in your voice makes him come to you to sit down besides you on the couch. "Sure. What's up sweetheart?"
You bite your lip. Dammit, this is harder than you have expected.
"I have to tell you something. I... I kept it back long enough from you, but it wouldn't be fair if I didn't tell you..."
Dean takes your hands in his. "You can tell me everything, honey, you know that."
His soft voice makes a tear running down your cheek. "I know. I'm sorry..."
You take a deep breath. "Do you remember that day we had to go to the hospital because that vampire hurt you before I could kill it?"
Dean nods. "That one time when I was about to die? Coma and stuff? And came back to life slowly despite the doctor's prognosis?"
Now you nod. "Yeah. It's... I made a deal. That one night, your condition was really bad. You even had a cardiac arrest. The doctors told me you were more likely to die than to survive. I... I couldn't let it happen. I couldn't let you die..." The words have been getting faster and quieter, and in the end, your voice has broken.
Dean looks at you in disbelief. "But... The doctors said I was just lucky. My wounds healed normally. How did this involve a deal?"
"Because that was my wish. That you'd be healing slowly so you wouldn't get suspicious. I never told you, hoping that at least we would have ten wonderful years - which we had - and I'm so sorry for not telling you..."
Dean pulls his hands back and stands up, moving away a few steps, then he turns around and looks at you.
You can tell how he's counting back the years. Then realization hits him. "Ten years ago? That... That means... When?"
You have to break the eye contact for a moment. "Pretty sure it's gonna be tomorrow..."
Dean turns away from you. But you spotted the tear running down his cheek. "Dean, please, I'm-"
"Don't."
It's this one word that silences you immediately. Not the word, but the way he said it. He's broken. You have broken him. Your worst nightmare has become real.
"I... I need to get some fresh air. I'll be back in a minute", he says after a while.
You don't stop him as he heads out. "I'm so sorry I hurt you so much, Dean", you whisper, as you lay down on the couch and bursting out in tears.
You haven't deserved the self-pity. But you can't keep the tears back as you lay there, waiting for the tears to run dry - and for Dean to come back.
