DEVON SAT ON A BENCH OUTSIDE THE CONVENT, she later learned that this was where Melissa and Rachel first lived or something, somewhere safe.
Hugging her arms around herself she took the scenery, the place looked normal to the naked eye, inviting even. But to someone like Devon, this place was evil, the energy was heavy and something weird lingered in the air, waiting to pounce.
Death. That's what the weight on her shoulders said. She didn't know why or how, this feeling normally happened in cemeteries, where the dead lived. She assumed a convent was a place full of life and positivity, not a place where her powers would go crazy. Good thing she couldn't hear the dead... Bad thing she could feel them.
These people were mad and sad, their souls in search of rest. This was the actual reason her parents left her.
When she was born the first few years were a bliss for her parents, until it wasn't. Devon was four when it happened. She was outside playing with the family dog, her parents sat on the porch. The dog ran to the street, no one saw the car approaching at full speed, that night the dog was buried in the backyard.
Little Devon was so devastated she couldn't sleep that night, so she walked out the backdoor and to the dog's grave. She placed her small hands on the cold dirt and cried, she cried and cried until there were no tears left.
The only thought on her mind was how much she wished for her dog to come back. The weird thing was, it did.
The dog crawled out of its grave, face still disfigured and mangled body, dirt sticking to its wounds. Devon let out a terrified scream, her parents rushed outside after not finding their daughter in her bed and froze at the sight of their deceased dog up and walking. Devon's dad picked her up and ran inside, her mother close behind, locking themselves in they walked to the living room.
The small girl sat on the couch as her parents discussed what was happening. Devon's memory was a bit blurry but she could remember her mother blaming her father's side of the family and saying that something like this was bound to happen. Her father said something about her family too, again couldn't remember, he walked outside and returned a couple of hours later, his hands and legs caked with dirt and what looked like blood.
Strange things kept happening, she could feel people everywhere, and their emotions were strong, too strong. She always told her parents about it but was taken for crazy, many therapy sessions later and nothing changed, it felt like the incidents increased.
Her parents made the decision to give her up a year later. She never received an actual explanation, just that she was too much for her parents to handle.
Devon came back from her memories when a group of nuns walked by her, they kept their heads low and whispered among themselves, probably about the strange four that had walked into their haven.
Letting out a sigh she stood and zipped her coat up, deciding to take a stroll around the place until Rachel felt better.
Thirty minutes later Devon was exhausted from her walk, "Jesus, I need to exercise more." She walked to the entrance of the large building, not seeing Dick's car she decided to walk in to search for Rachel. She couldn't find Kory, as she had learned the woman was named, either. "Where is everybody?"
