It was a nightmare, and one of the night his parents were killed in Crime Alley.
Martha: Brucie, look at me. [Bruce opens his eyes] It's nothing to be ashamed of. Between you and me, I think your father was scared too. Hey, why don't we stop for ice cream on the way home? You can order anything you want.
Thomas: [Takes Martha's hand] Martha...
Suddenly a criminal came out from the shadows and held a gun in his hand, pointed directly at Thomas and Martha, who was in front of Bruce.
Joe Chill: Cash, jewelry, hand it over.
Martha: [Protecting Bruce] Stay behind me, Bruce.
Kid Bruce: [Scared] Mommy...
Joe Chill: [Aggressive] Hand it over!
Thomas: [Cooperating] Easy friend, easy.
Joe Chill: I look like your friend? [Points gun to Martha] Pearls, too. Faster!
Martha: [Frightened; attempts to get pearls off] It's stuck! Thomas...
Joe Chill: [Back to Thomas] Back off!
Thomas: Please, we're trying to cooperate.
Joe Chill then moves over to Thomas and the two start trying to push each other away, until Thomas is shot.
Martha: [Frightened] Thomas!
Kid Bruce: [Coward behind Martha] Daddy!
Martha: Bruce! Run!
Martha is then shot and Bruce looks at his parents, completely frightened.
Bruce: [Scared] Mommy!
Joe Chill then points the gun at Bruce, who's standing there now scared out of his life. The crook makes his way to the boy, revealing his face to him.

Joe Chill: See that, kid? That's what happens when you try to be a hero.
The scene then goes dark and Bruce wakes up, appearing next to the piano at Wayne Manor.
Alfred: Rough night, sir? When did you return?
Bruce: [Rubs head] Late, Alfred. It was late.
Alfred: Well, some awareness of your movements would be appreciated. [Notices the piano] You do know that one's own bed would make for comfortable sleeping arrangements than a piano, grand or otherwise?
