𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑...

hazel

my eyes were fixed on my hands as they smoothed out my black dress. i watched them in the mirror, running down my torso to my upper thighs and pulling the material down.

"hazel!" matt yelled from downstairs.

"yeah?" i shouted back.

i didn't hear anything after that, so i continued looking at myself on the mirror.

after a minute i saw matt's reflection. his figure leaning against my doorframe.

"you look great." he said.

i smiled and turned around.

"thank you."

"are you ready to go?"

"yup, let me grab my purse." i reached for it off my bed.

he stopped me in the doorway to wrap and arm around my waist and press a kiss to my cheek.

i giggled as we walked downstairs.

"there she is!" aaliyah sang out. "the beautiful girl!"

"hi!" i laughed, hugging her.

"ugh, i've missed you! new york has been a pain in my ass." she frowned.

aaliyah got a modeling job in new york a couple months ago and has been going back and forth.

she flew back in last night.

"i know, but how are you feeling?" i asked.

"good! haven't had a drink for a month, so i'm ready for tonight." she smiled.

i laughed.

aaliyah had been sober for atleast 5 months now. she had completely given up smoking and vaping but will still have a drink here and there.

"well, let's go then." i gave her a smile, before looking back at matt and walking to the car.

nick and chris were already in the car. matt got in the front as aaliyah climbed in the back.

chris made the better decision of letting her and i play music until we got there.

we sang along to 'reputation' by taylor swift as we drove to the house.

we all got out of the car and matt came around to wrap his arm around my waist as he walked in next to me.

i smiled at him as we walked inside.

matt and his brothers found and said hi to their friend who invited them there. aaliyah and i were introduced to him right before he led us all over to sit down on the couch.

it wasn't a very big couch so as everyone sat down, i ended up taking a seat on matt's lap.

he smiled at me as he rested his hand on my hip.

after a couple minutes of talking to the boys friend, i decided to get some drinks.

"i'm gonna go get drinks. you want a root beer?" i asked matt as i stood up.

"if you can find one, that would be great." he smiled, holding onto my hand.

"ok, guys, i'm gonna get drinks. guys, you want anything?"

"i'm good." aaliyah smiled.

"nick?" i asked to him.

"a bottle of water would be fine." he shrugged.

"alright and chris you want a coke right?" i smiled.

"haha. funny. you bring me a coke and you're walking home." he smirked, pointing his finger at me.

"like hell she is. you tell you to walk home i'll make your ass walk home." matt told him.

i tipped my head back and laughed as i walked to the kitchen.

i went to the fridge and surprisingly found everyone's desired drinks.

i started sitting them on the counter behind me so i could grab them all easier.

someone appeared next to me as i grabbed the last drinks, two bottles of water for nick and i.

"oh, sorry. i'm not trying to be in the way." i laughed.

"oh, no you're ok. i was trying to grab a water." he said back.

as i moved back i realized who it was.

"oh... hey, dylan." i said, flatly.

"hey hazel." he gave a small smile.

a couple months ago dylan had reached out to me. he apologized for everything that had happened between us and for everything he said.

he told me that he wasn't trying to get me back or anything but that he felt guilty about how things went down.

he was working on himself. he had opened up to his parents about his substance and anger issues. i didn't even know it was that deep until he told me.

he was going to programs and honestly i was proud of him for realizing and doing what he felt right.

"how have you been?" i asked.

"i've been alright. i'm doing a lot better." he lifted the bottle of water he had just grabbed from the fridge.

"three months." he said. "i know it's not long but im trying."

i smiled. he hadn't drank for three months.

"no, dylan that's really good. you should be so proud of yourself."

"thank you. you too, i see?" he gestured to the water in my hand.

"yeah. a year actually." i said as proudly as i could without trying to brag a lot.

"wow. that's good, hazel. congratulations."

i said thank you as i looked back to the living room couch. matt's eyes were on me and dylan.

"alright, well, i have to get back to my boyfriend. it was good to see you." i said, grabbing all the drinks i sat out in the counter.

"yeah, you too. bye."

"bye bye." i quickly walked back over.

i handed matt his root beer and nick his water bottle.

"and for chris i have a nice, cold... pespi? oh, i meant to grab a coke." i said, sarcastically as i smirked.

"give me my pespi." he laughed.

i grinned as i handed it to him and sat back down with matt.

"everything ok?" he asked, wrapping a protective arm around my waist.

i wrapped my arm around his neck and pecked him on the lips.

"everything is perfect." i smiled.
