"Octavia?" Her father called looking at her expectantly. She seemed to be too quiet and absent minded for her own good. He sometimes worried she would be bullied, especially without her mother here. But each time he remembered she was the crown princess, he dismissed it. Every crown needs a tough bearer not a soft child. And besides he knew the fire he saw in those eyes the first time they met. So many things about her was not clear. Especially the fact, he didn't know that the mother had conceived her until her death and how no one except her knew her real name. He had to give her mother's name.
"I didn't get you"
Shaking his head disappointedly, he wondered if he really was the owner of this child. Except the exceptional beauty there was nothing impressive about her, talentless, no academic brilliance to even make up for it. Was this really how things would go on? Every other one had retentive memories and even heard when they weren't listening, but she couldn't do any of this.
Gwen the red haired beauty, like her mother was good with attracting attention and getting favours that would be used in the future. At the age of three Tessa was already walking down the red carpets, appearing on almost all baby ads. His third daughter Julie was already in the entertainment circles. The rest all had something they were good at and known for. Even the eight daughter whom they were yet to see was in charge of taking care of the company issues. But Octavia was just like a dumb beauty, she wasn't exceptional in anything, it was just like she had no purpose in life than just to exist. Her eyes were lifeless no spark in them, he had always thought it was the grief of losing her mother, but he was beginning to doubt that now.
"Just stay clear of Mel, your new sister she can be a little overbearing at times."
"Oh". Octavia said her voice barely above a whisper. Another thing about her, her voice was soft and smooth like the wind. She rarely spoke but each time she did it was hard to ignore her. Picking her spoon she scooped her soup gently, unperturbed like she wasn't even the one who stirred trouble few minutes ago.
Sighing hopelessly her father adjusted his glasses wanting to leave as he had an important business to attend to before the arrival of his daughter.
"Ehem... Octavia?"
"Yes 'father' ? " Octavia said making Gwen scoff at her. To others it looked liked she was shy as her head was bowed and her eyes never leaving her plate. Only her knew what flashed in her eyes as she spit the word 'father'.
"Have you considered the training? "
He had long come to a conclusion on how to make Octavia useful, hopefully sending her to learn combat might pay off. And being who she was, he was sure she would agree as she never refused anything he asked.
" I have gotten one of the best teachers for you. You just have to get into High school with a passable grade.""Okay"
He nodded his head satisfied with her response, he walked out of the room not once glancing back. Maybe if he had looked back, he would have noticed how white her knuckles turned from gripping her spoon too tight. He would have seen the rage in her eyes at that brief moment in time. The rest of her sisters just ignored her as they talked about things they had archive, hoping to make themselves jealous.
Everyone went about there normal business after lunch, since the announcement of a new daughter had somehow disrupted their ' almost ' perfect lunch. While Octavia went to her room to rest.
She needed time for herself, many things were happening since she left Deva high school, there were many new students and they didn't look ordinary. Not like there were any ordinary Deva students, just that there was something about the students now. And for some reasons no one seemed to care except for her.
She was turning sixteen soon and this was not making anything better. If anything this was making things worse than it already is. Closing her eyes she thought of somewhere far away in her memories...........
"Get back here girls befo..." Before the beautiful woman could complete her sentence they giggled with there little childish voice."No mama !" They ran off towards the blue green sea, as fast as their little feet could carry them.
If only they knew what was going to happen in the next minute, they would have been running towards her.
She could still remember the smile that blossomed on that woman's face
as she watched them run off into the sea. Shaking her head as she tried to wake herself from that memory. At that time she was just sitting on a slightly higher platform watching different families live there life. At that moment in time she had wished that one day she could live like that.
Too bad fate had never been good to her.She still remember the horrified screams of those little girls as she slowly pulled the trigger on their ' not so ' innocent mother.
