Steve
Steve found it hard to actually rest for even a few minutes. He constantly turned and woke up when he tried. So instead of sleeping he found it better to plan. To think of some way to beat Hydra. Steve was nervous and he had every right to be. So far every plan he had failed and yet the Avengers still trusted his judgment. Surprisingly no matter how many times he failed they still trusted him. Which was more than he could say for himself. Steve was beginning to doubt if he could ever defeat Hydra at this point. Hydra had gotten so far into their plan and Steve was unsure if five people could stop a whole army of people. He shook his head and got up. The night had faded and it was early in the morning. Some odd smell caught his attention but he shrugged it off. Steve walked across the hall to where Tony was staying. He knocked on the doorway to get his friend's attention. Tony seemed to flinch at the sound whipping his head around to the doorway. "Are you ok?" Steve asked. Tony frowned and looked towards the ground. "I'm fine, just a little anxious." Tony replied. Steve wasn't convinced but he didn't bother trying to force an answer out of him. "I think we should get the others and get going if we want to do things right." Steve sighed. "Right your plan..." Tony grumbled, turning the other way. "Listen Tony I wanted to talk to you about uhm earlier." Steve frowned. "I don't want to hear your excuse for trusting them Steve, clearly you were wrong to do so." Tony quickly interrupted. "That's not what I was going to say." Steve held a firm tone to his voice. "Then what were you going to say Steve? Oh that they were right for trying to kill me? That maybe we shouldn't judge the people who have given us no good reason to trust them?! Because if that's what you were going to say I don't want to hear it." Tony hissed.
Steve balled his hands into fists. "Listen Tony I know this situation isn't the best and I know we're all a bit tied up here but if you would just listen to me-" Steve started but Tony interrupted him. "No Steve I don't think you understand that this is more than just being 'tied up at the moment' this is our endgame if we make the wrong choices. It's not just taking another Hydra base or busting arms dealers this is stopping Hydra from destroying everything! I don't want to trust someone who's going to betray us in the long run. I never said I wanted to kill anyone but clearly they do." Tony spat. Steve was silent for a moment. It would be hard to convince Tony otherwise. "Tony I know everything has gone to shit, and I know it's mostly our fault. But we can't just ignore the fact that they are people too. And if I can just get them alone, maybe I can explain everything to them. Those two would be a big help to us Tony." Steve sighed, lifting us head up. Tony was quiet before he narrowed his eyes. "You can trust whoever you want Steve but you're my friend and I won't stand to see you get hurt. They're manipulating you Steve trying to get inside your head. I know you can't see it yet but you will." Tony huffed getting up. Tony tried to push past Steve as he exited the room. Steve grabbed onto his shoulder. "You're wrong Tony. You can't fake those real emotions I saw on her face. I know they don't know what they're doing but I'll convince them one way or another." Steve said, narrowing his eyes. "You'll regret it." Tony whispered, walking past him down the hall. Steve watched his friend walk away. He didn't want things to turn out the way they did but he couldn't bring himself to actually hurt them.
Steve waited for a second before smelling the same smell he recognized from the hotel he had stayed at. Tony and the others were outside of their rooms. Steve looked at the four of them with a knowing look on his face. But Tony had a different look on his face. A look of 'I told you so'. "We need to get out of here." Clint sighed. "The fire is mostly on the second floor so we need an escape route." Bruce noted. Steve walked over to them. "Let's make our way down the stairs," he suggested. "No." Tony turned away from him. "Tony the building is on fire, what do you mean no?" Steve sighed. "I'm not following you. Not anymore. You got us into this mess, I'm getting us out." Tony hissed. "Tony please." Steve looked at him. "Look around Steve, this is your fault. This whole mess is your fault. You had to play the hero and come back to this city. You dragged the rest of us away from everyone we love just to see if you could save people!" Tony started to yell now. "I never made you do anything! Tony, you misunderstand the point!" Steve shouted, his voice elevating. "Can we save the arguing till after we get out of a burning building." Natasha hissed, shoving the two of them away from one another. Tony glared at Steve but agreed anyway. "We can use one of the exits on the first floor." Clint offered. "Let's go." Bruce sighed looking at the two of them. Steve walked slower than the rest of the Avengers. He didn't mean to start a fight with his friend, he just wanted him to see things the way he did. "Steve?" Clint turned to look at him. "Hm?" Steve looked up, snapping himself out of whatever thoughts he had. "Listen I know you and Tony have a different perspective on things but if this plan is going to work you two need to get along. Not just to get out of the building." Clint frowned.
