Perhaps McGonagall had gone back, to retrieve Harry from the doorstep of a house with people who would never truly love him for what he was. Perhaps she apparated  herself and baby Harry to a small cottage in the backwoods of a dark forest filled with the creatures of the night.

McGonagall took a deep breath as she knocked on the door and hushed the child as he stirred. A light came on and a young woman opened the door and ushered the Professor and the child inside. The room was softly lite with a large bookshelf, a comfy couch, a small kitchen and two small bedrooms of to the side with a bath room between.

The woman brushed her auburn hair behind her ear and tied the rest into a sloppy bun as she took the child in her arms. McGonagall slumped on the couch and smiled as the milk on the stove was heating up in the pot, perfect for a baby to drink. The Professor smiled as she received a glass of water and finally spoke a word

"No one can no about this dear, but I couldn't leave him there, not with those people. They would never love him, care for him like Lily would have"

"Minerva, This forest is no place to raise a child, I don't know why you wanted me to have him"

"No one will look for Harry here, Lily and James trusted you enough to know their secrets, I'm sure they'd trust you enough to be the care taker of their son"

"What about Sirius? Remus? Peter?...Severus?"

"Remus cannot take care of the child until he gets his wolf form in control, Peter is no longer with us I'm afraid dear, Severus is not able to take care of the child with his death eater ties...Sirius has gone to Azkaban my dear, he let the location of the potter's go to Voldemort and killed Mr. Pettigrew"

The young woman fell back onto a dining table chair and slowly rocked the baby, her eyes full of tears and her mind full of confusion. Could Sirius really have done that? could he have betrayed his friends? why didn't he come to her? Looking at the sleeping child in her arms she took a breath and mustered the best smile she could.

"I'll take care of him Minerva, you have my word"
