Chapter 1: Fairytale is a joke

Once upon a time, there was a child who loved fairytales. Stories of brave heroes and heroines, who faced evil villains and found true love, and lived happily ever after. Stories that filled the child’s heart with hope and wonder, and made the child believe that anything was possible.

The child grew up, and reality set in.

Reality was not a fairytale. Reality was harsh and bitter.

In reality, there were no heroes or heroines, only ordinary people who had to fight for their place in the world. People who had to compete with others for scarce resources, such as jobs, money, fame, and power. People who had to struggle to survive in a world that was unfair and cruel, where the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Where the powerful exploited the weak, and the weak suffered in silence.

In reality, there was no true love, only lust. People did not find their soulmates or their princes or princesses, but they settled for whoever was available or convenient. People did not have romance or passion, but they had infidelity and betrayal. People did not have loyalty or commitment, but they had divorce and separation. People did not love each other, but they used each other.

In reality, there were no villains, only people. People who had their own agendas and interests, and who did not care about others. People who lied, cheated, stole, and killed to get what they wanted. People who were selfish, greedy, corrupt, and violent. People who were enemies and rivals, not friends or allies.

In reality, there was no magic, only illusion. People walked on thorns in order to smell flowers, where flower was nothing but money which was the best illusion. People sacrificed their health, their time, their relationships, their dreams, for the sake of money. Money that they thought would make them happy, but it never did. Money that they thought would solve their problems, but it only created more. Money that they thought would give them freedom, but it only enslaved them.

In reality, there was no happy ending, only an endless struggle. People did not have a fairy godmother or a magic wand to help them. People did not have a destiny or a fate to guide them. People did not have a purpose or a meaning to inspire them.

People were alone in this world.
This was reality.

And it sucked.

The child grew up to be an adult who hated reality.

The adult decided to write a book about reality.

A book that would expose the truth about the society, the world, and the reality in a witty and candid way.

A book that would cover various topics such as politics, culture, technology, environment, relationships, and more.

A book that would offer insights, opinions, and anecdotes that would be offensive for some and inspiring for others.

A book that would not be a definitive guide or a universal truth, but rather a personal reflection and a humorous commentary on the challenges and joys of living in the 21st century.

A book that would make people laugh, think, and question their assumptions.

A book that would be called Reality Bites: A Humorous and Honest Look at Life in the 21st Century.

This is the book you are reading now.

And it begins with this chapter.
