"Katie, it's time to wake up," a soft voice called to me. I swatted my hand in that general direction. "C'mon Kk. Wake up." I wearily opened my eyes. Simon was resting his chin on his hands on my bed. I smiled at him and reached out to touch him. He suddenly changed. It was no longer Simon, but the blue haired man with the strange mark from that day almost three years ago. I screamed and he smiled. My hand pulled back quickly, but his hand darted out.
I woke with a start. My heart pounded against my ribs. I looked around. I was safe in my bedroom with no one in sight. Ever since Papa had come home, that blue haired man had haunted my dreams. There was something about him that freaked me out.
"Katie! They're home from their mission!" Kyle yelled knocking on my door.
"Alright, I'm coming," I yelled back. It's been a little over three years since Papa came home and now that I'm seventeen and Kyle is fourteen, they've been taking jobs with Natsu and Erza more and more. I swung my legs over the side of my bed and touched the cold ground. It felt good compared to the hot sun streaming through my window. I heard the front door open. Kyle was talking to someone. It didn't sound like Mama or Papa or even Simon. Was that Lexi?
"Lexi, she's still waking up. It's not a good idea!" Kyle urgently yelled.
"Shut up pipsqueak! We're going on a mission and she's not getting out of this one," Lexi yelled back. My door slammed open and Lexi stepped in and onto a patch of black ice.
"You little b***h. That black ice sucks, you know that?" she asked as she looked up at me. The ice melted and left her in a nice little pool of water. She glared and steam slowly hissed around her. Her pink sports bra and white skinny jeans were soaked. Her black boots were steaming. I stood up quickly, ready to fight her.
"Bring it you fire shifter!" I declared. Lexi's hand changed into a claw and fire erupted out of it. Kyle jumped in quickly.
"C'mon guys! Don't destroy the house! Let's just go on the mission Katie," Kyle protested. His blonde braid swung behind his head as he looked back and forth between us. The magic energy suddenly stopped as we both stood down.
"It's too early for a fight anyway," Lexi grumbled. Mama and Papa stuck their heads in my doorway.
"Well this is unexpected. What are you doing here Lexi?" Mama asked.
"Trying to get this lazy ice slug out of bed and on a mission with us," Lexi answered.
"Alright. You kids have fun," Papa said. Mama and Papa left the doorway and Lexi smirked at me.
"C'mon, lazy bum!" she said trying to pull me out of the room.
"Let me get dressed! And get out of my room!" I yelled shoving her out and slamming the door. Kyle stood in the middle of my room uncomfortably. "You get out too!" He ran out, slamming the door behind him. I sighed in relief and went over to my closet to get changed. I grabbed my blue shorts and white tank top throwing them on. I grabbed Papa's old trench coat that I had modified and was slightly gray now. When I came out of my room, Lexi was tapping her feet anxiously with her arms crossed.
"Took you long enough," she grumbled. I grabbed Kyle's arm and dragged him out of the house.
"Bye! I hope we don't die!" I called to Mama and Papa. They called back goodbye's and we left. It was amazing how relaxed Mama was now since Papa was back. And probably also that we were going with Lexi and Simon. Lexi followed along behind us. Kyle finally pulled his arm out of my grasp and followed as well. When we got to the guild, Simon had our job all ready to go and checked off with the Master.
"You guys ready?" Simon asked.
"Heck yeah!" I declared making a fist.
"Sheesh, grow up a little. It's just a job," Lexi said shaking her head.
