It feels wrong, everything about this feels wrong but I couldn't stop. Why did this happen? Why me? What did I do to deserve this punishment?

It was currently 3:25 am when I was awoken by a gut-wrenching scream. Could I even call it that? No, it didn't sound anything close to human. Anyways, what was that? Was it just a dream? No not possible. I decided that I would wait a couple of minutes, just to prove to myself that it must have been my imagination and that I wasn't losing my mind.

I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes I looked at my alarm clock. On it, it read "9:36 am". As I finally adjusted to my surroundings It struck me, I was about to be late for work!

If you could see me now you would have thought I was crazy, as I rushed around my room collecting what I needed for work. I was about halfway there when I bumped into someone. A woman, who looked around 25 with brunette wavy hair and quite a frail frame.

I quickly realized that she dropped something, so I crouched down and picked up what looked to be quite a heavy book. As I ran after her, she noticed I was trying to get her attention and sped up her movement. After I finally caught up to her, she turned around and what I saw would scare me for the rest of my life. She was smiling but the way her mouth bent like that was not humanly possible. I didn't bother to make small talk with her and just gave her the book and went.

Right now it's 10:58 am so I decided to call work and say I wasn't feeling well and that I was sorry for not calling sooner. When I got home it didn't feel right. I don't know how to explain it everything was where I left it and no signs of anyone breaking in so why do I feel anxious? I shrugged it off thinking that it had something to do with what I saw earlier.
I decided to call my friend Amy and tell her that we should meet up. She immediately replied " Of course! The usual spot?" I then agreed and told her I will be there soon.

Me and Amy have always been close, ever since we were younger. Our parents were best friends so we would always see each other when they visited for dinner and to catch up with each other. Even after 5 years we still talked, we even went to the same high school and in year 10 I then realized I had grown a crush on her and I'm sure your all wondering, who even are you?

My name was Nyx, and yes just like the Greek goddess of night. I identified as a female. My favourite colour was purple and I had a fascination with horror stories. The Last thing I will say is that I was a lesbian and thankfully my parents were fully supportive.

It was half 11 when me and Amy met up, we always meet at the same place. A small coffee shop, right next to a trail leading to the Woods it was always peaceful here not many people come here but it's cosy so we made it our meet-up spot. Anyways, I felt like Amy knew something was wrong because she looked at me with what seemed to be worry in her eyes. "Nyx, what's wrong? Why are you not at work?" she asked. " I'm fine Amy, don't worry about me. And what can't I see my best friend?" I replied. " You know it's not that. What happened?" " If I told you, you wouldn't believe me."

After that, we had some coffee and headed back to my house. Once we got to my front door, I was about to put my key into the lock but for some reason as soon as I touched to handle my door pushed open. That was the first red flag, I told Amy to follow me but stay close because something was wrong. She complied and put her hand around my arm, we were in the living room and then we saw it. A red book. The same book that the woman from this morning had. My fight-or-flight instincts told me that we should leave and run to my neighbours and call the police to file a break-in. But I couldn't move, It's like I was frozen in place.

The next thing I knew, I was thrown into the wall next to me. Amy screamed and ran over to me but before she could reach me a knife was embedded into her stomach. I couldn't do anything but watch the scene fold in front of me. After about a minute, I finally regained control of my body and I did exactly what my body wanted to do. Run. So I managed to bolt out of the front door and run to the woods next to my house. A dumb decision in hindsight but I didn't care.

It's been about half an hour of me running. I finally stopped running, and I collapsed on the floor. I started bawling my eyes out. The person I loved had just been murdered, my best friend. How could anyone do that!? After about 5 minutes of crying, I could hear a humming that sounded to be 30ft behind me. I tried to control my breathing, and I sat in a fetal position up against a tree.

Whoever is reading this, please listen to me. Whatever you do, do not and mean do not run after anyone who dropped a book that has a black spine with a red wavy pattern on the front.

All I can do now is admit defeat and wait for my end. As the humming gets incredibly close, all I could think about is the happy memories I had with Amy. The humming stopped. I opened my eyes, which was a horrible mistake. Before me stood the woman from before wearing the same alarming smile. I stared at her cold black iris' with disgust. I went back to closing my eyes and thinking about Amy, she did not like that because as soon as I had done that she yanked me up and forced my eyes open.

Pain. That's all I felt right now. She had finally plunged the blade into my stomach. After a moment she let me go and I hit the firm rocky surface below me. I could feel the blood gushing out of my wound, but It didn't matter as long as I would be with Amy.
