She can hear her heartbreak the moment she turns around. The wind greets her just as harshly as the sight does, and as her eyes blur with tears, a single plea escapes her lips. Let it not be her husband she breathes with every thundering breath. Let it not be her Rishi she pleads. But the haze clears and she sees him.She finds herself staggering back and with it she loses her balance. He's seen her she realises, and as she hurtles into the ground, his hand shoots forth.
Regardless, her chest is laboured as she heaves a desperate breath to anchor her. Instead, her breath is robbed off her, and she finds her head growing light.
The wind is relentless in its onslaught, and for a moment she wonders perhaps, if it is offering her comfort. The thought is washed in depths of despair as it simply elicits her tears more predominately.
Her lips quiver then, and she finds herself trying to say the syllables of his name. She wants to call out to him, wants to beg for mercy before him, but his hand is caught by the woman at his side and his name dies on her lips.
She looks behind him, follows the hand that has stopped his, and as she looks at Malishka's hate filled gaze, she finds herself growing nauseous.
She picks herself up with a struggle, her bleeding foot causing a wince to escape her, and as her tears spill, she turns back.
She hears him scream her name like a desperate lover, but the reality is that he calls for her to entrap her in his manipulations once more. Her feet do not stop despite the desperation she hears in his voice. Her heart bleeds as he grows closer, but she does not want to be caught.
He follows her regardless, and as she grows closer to the main road, careless of her surroundings, she does not hear the sharp horning of a truck until it's too late. She is caught at the headlights, and as she looks away, an arm at her waist pulls her back.
She is robbed of her breath again, and she chokes on a sob as she crashes into the awaiting chest she knows belongs to her husband. Her cheating husband.
She looks at him, her face streaked with tears, and she fights his embrace relentlessly.
He begs her to listen, pleads with her for a moment of rationality, but everything has been destroyed, and he has broken her.
She ignores his concern for her life, pushes his hand away as he searches her for any signs of injury and when his gaze recoils in pain, she takes his distraction as an advantage to outrun him.
The gods finally seems to be on her side this time, and she scoffs up at the sky. It's better late than never she thinks, but her line of sanity ends there and she falls into her heartbreak like a person committing suicide.
She wonders aimlessly, trips and falls, and by the time she finds a moment for shelter, she is littered in more injuries she can count. Her sari is torn, as is her trust in her husband and the world.
She sits there, and cries her heart out, she asks questions for answers she does not want to hear and she reminisces her moments with him. Moments with him that had been nothing more than a blissful lie. She finds herself laughing then, louder and louder as time grows until finally, she wishes for death. She is denied that too and is ushered into a fitful sleep.
As the sun rises, her pain rises with it, and what she had hoped to be nothing more than a nightmare turns into her reality as the sun bleeds through the straw made hut.
She stands and stumbles, her wound most likely infected and as her red sari blows in the breeze, her gaze focuses on the ringing of the bells from the mandir.
