A beam of sunlight hit the Cookie's forehead, right in the center.

More beams of sunlight came through the not-so-shady windows of the old, shabby, cookie-cutter house. The curtains didn't hide the neon in the morning, everything seemed like it was made out of old stuff. As if it was the early 2000s once again. Nothing seemed modern in the house Capsaicin Cookie lived in anymore. Ever since the disappearance of his husband, Capsaicin's life felt like it was in broken pieces of an antique vase.

The sunlight struck Capsaicin right in his eyes, sending him to flop back down on his bed. The bed even creaked, a sign that he was getting older and older. Time seemed to be moving slower, but his age sure wouldn't.

The only 'fast days' that were experienced in Capsaicin's life were sleeping in or something else that would excite him. Nothing else excited him other than seeing his husband after work. The joy after arresting Cookies for their terrible deeds would make Capsaicin so proud, and his spouse even prouder. The spouse of Capsaicin Cookie would give him kisses and a nice cup of coffee every morning and evening he came home.

But now that spouse is gone.

Maybe even dead.

Just thinking about death itself made the grown Cookie tear up. He stalked out of bed and into the kitchen, where the rusty coffee-maker was sitting.

That coffee-maker was owned by his spouse's mother, and it was weird how it still worked. Capsaicin was glad that they kept it. The beverage-maker was at least seventy-five years old, carved with intricate designs. It could sell for hundreds of dollars if Capsaicin wanted to.

Capsaicin paused for a moment to scratch his goatee and think about that. If he did sell the coffee-maker, he could make a fortune and start getting his life together again. But, he would lose a memory of his long-gone beloved. He blinked back tears and ran to the bathroom.

A singular cockroach stared at Capsaicin's puffy eyes. It ducked back down into the sink gutter.

He sighed heavily, looking in the bathroom mirror. It was full of cracks and scratches, where Capsaicin had lost his temper about losing his only source of happiness. Stains of blood were in the shape of knuckles, obvious clues of where he had thrown hands at. His voice was now deep and gloomy, rather than how it used to be. It used to be cheerful and outspoken, like how everyone knew him as a Scovillian Officer.

"Oh, where has my life gone?" He moaned in complete depression, putting his head within his hands. "Where did my spouse go? Where did my loving Prune Juice Cookie husband go?!" He started to cry again, another urge to punch at the already-cracked mirror. One more throw against it and it would shatter into a million pieces.

But also, he had recently gotten information in the newspaper that the television was working again in his neighborhood. For just over three months, nobody had television because of a broken wiring. The Cookies who were supposed to fix it never did, until months later when someone had enough and fixed it themself. Maybe surfing through the channels of the TV would bring Capsaicin's crappy mood down to a calm, serene level.

Fortunately, he had remembered where he had placed the beat-up remote and turned on the television. The leather chair he was sitting on was peeling now from being so old, just like the Cookie himself. Without realizing anything, he had switched the channel to the news.

"Hello, Cookies of the Scovillian Kingdom!" Was said with professional and stern attitude by the reporter lady.

"It must feel good to have a sense of entertainment back, right? Anyhow, there is some tragic news going around. Many Cookie families have reported missing members from their life, or some even killed in their own home. That means there is an assassin roaming the kingdoms, including ours, the spicy world of Scovillia. Watch out for these bloody incidents, and stay safe! Now, onto a cuter topic, about the Serenity Zoo of blah blah blah..."

"Reported missing members of family?" Capsaicin muttered groggily. "An assassin on the loose?! Oh, Scovillian Lords! I'm not the only one who is stuck-up out there?"

But the bad news about that hit Capsaicin Cookie like a train.

The assassin could have killed Prune Juice Cookie.
