"We'll always be friends right?"
"Always"
Those words bounced through her mind as she was being dragged away.
The sky which had been a bright blue was now a muddled gray.
Rain was coming.
Her vision clouded again as she searched for him.
"Mommy let me say goodbye!"
Her mother stopped in her steps and forced her to look away.
Harshly her mother said: "He's gone. Forget about him and keep moving."
Tears welled in her eyes as her mother began walking again, yanking her along.
She risked one last glance towards the gate.
There he stood.
His shoulders drooped and the expression on his face was the saddest she'd ever seen it. She could barely see him as a man appeared and grabbed hold of her friends hand and pulled him away.
I'm never going to see him again.
"Ow!" pain shot up her arm as her mother dug her long nails into her hand and pulled her into the house.
She was taken to the back room and forced to lie down.
As soon as she heard the lock click, she let her tears flow freely.
Months passed and she got used to being alone. But her vision had been rapidly deteriorating over the past few months.
Eight months after she had last seen him, her vision permanently clouded.
She was ten years old.
The day she completely lost her sight she locked herself in her new room and just cried. She cried for the things that used to be, she cried for the things that were, and she cried for the things that could never be.
"We'll always be friends, Alethia. Always"
She thought back to when she last saw him. Had she known what was going to happen she would have tried to memorize everything about him. But now it was no use.
I'll never see him again. I'll never see his pretty eyes, or make fun of his messy black hair, or play our favourite games. I'll never see my best friend again.
