It was a beautiful day. The sun gleamed and the bright hues of green trees stood out more than ever. It wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t too cold out. The breeze was perfect and soothing.

Today was quiet. Really quiet. Like dead quiet. I could get used to this. Nobody was screaming into my ears, I didn’t have anybody irritating me, and I didn’t have anybody following me like a sheep. This is awesome. But, it’s just too quiet.

I stepped out of the library, dusting the creases off my charcoal black skinny jeans. I had my headphones on, as always. I’m that ‘always zoned out’ person whose name comes out of almost everybody’s mouth. I stared down the hallway. There were at most twelve people when there’s usually like forty. The library was almost empty, too. But then again, nobody ever uses it but me.

The canteen was almost empty too, considering that it’s lunchtime. There’s usually a massive stampede.

All of a sudden I heard a loud blood curdling scream and what sounded like crying. I followed the sounds as though they were trails of bread. As I followed the sounds, I saw more and more people lurking around the scene. Most of them looked distraught, whereas others looked calm and careless.

I was eventually led out the back doors of the gymnasium, where the car park was situated. There was a massive stampede of people crammed together. As I strolled towards the crowd, it began to double and triple in size and grow louder. I heard more screaming and yelling.

I noticed a gap and managed to cram myself through it, pushing past anybody who got in the way. I saw almost everybody I knew in the crowd. Nymah was there, and she’s rarely ever seen in school. She had wide, hazelnut eyes with sky blue dyed hair and long choppy layers. She was gorgeous. Her boyfriend Tyler was there, too. He’s been said to have been put in jail ‘at least four times’ for ‘unknown’ reasons. Could be a rumour, but then again it probably is the truth and I don’t want to risk anything. He’s okay to me, though so I choose not to judge. He grinned at me widely before peeking over the group of people in front of me. I raised my eyebrows at him quickly before pushing further into the crowd. As I hit the front of the crowd I began to regret my actions.

I saw a pale white body sprawled out on the concrete, blood pouring out of a massive hole in her ribcage. Her hair was a dirty blonde and tied up in a messy bun. She also had black upper-thigh length shorts on with a super-short blood drenched crop top. I never noticed who it was until I saw Amy Menotti. She’s... Let’s just say a bit slow. She ran over to the body, clinging to the upper body of the corpse. She screamed and yelled, shaking the body as if trying to wake it up.

‘’Scarlett! Come on, babe! You’re going to be okay... Wake up... Please?’’

The more she clung to the body, the more her clothes became drenched with blood. Her tears fell like a waterfall, her black eyeliner smudging in the process. The body didn’t budge at all.

She was alone.

Everybody stood a great distance away from the body. They all just gawped in horror. I felt ashamed to be called a human. Nobody had the courage to help.

I stepped forward towards Amy Menotti and Scarlett.

‘’-Move away from the body, now!’’ I heard somebody yell coldly. I stopped straight in my tracks.

That voice was familiar. ‘’I said MOVE.’’ The voice spat out with anger. It was the head teacher, Mr. Sedrick and his assistant receptionist, Mrs. Coln. Mr Sedrick had a full head of jet black hair and pink flushed skin due to his anger. He was known for being uptight and always tempered.

I gave Amy a sympathetic glance and quickly darted my neck towards the crowd behind me. I heard some ‘’Awe’s...’’ and ‘’Ooh’s...’’ from the herd as students slowly walked away, discussing tomorrow’s news as if it was celebrity gossip.

I quickly walked off with the remaining students, trying to blend in.

As I walked back through the back doors to the gymnasium, I looked back only to see Mr. Sedrick and Mrs. Coln standing nearby Amy and Scarlett. I walked towards the entrance of the gymnasium and walked towards the locker hall. The school hall was now as packed as ever.

‘’-Students. Please get to your form rooms immediately. I repeat, please get to your form rooms immediately.’’

I heard a few yells of happiness. Everybody knew there would be an early school curfew.
