LUNA
"I hate having to clean up everyone else's mess. Everyone thinks I'm just their own personal slave waiting at their feet for orders and instructions." I say to Matteo. He always listens to my problems but isn't that much of a bright spark to give me a solution.
"Maybe you could speak to the Lieutenant about this. He should be able to help."
"Matt, he is the one who bosses me around in the first place and treats me like a dog. You think he cares about my say?" I turn around from the coffee station and face towards him sitting on a camp chair. It's finally our lunch break because the soldiers are gone for a practice run. They have a big mission coming up and they need all the practice they can get. Especially since most of them have just returned back from visiting their families and their bellies are looking 3 times the size since they left.
How I wish I could go home too, but father...
"You didn't make coffee for me? How rude." Matt says in a playful tone and I get snapped back to reality from my haunting thoughts."You didn't ask for anything. How was I supposed to know that you wanted coffee too?" I slightly lose my breathe on the last word of my sentence.
"I was joking, relax Luna. You've been so up tight lately, gosh." I see him rolling his eyes, at least I could see though. All the tents they set up for us on the field really helped protect our selves from the scorching sun.I was about to protest against his statement until we heard a loud cough coming from a microphone.
"Lieutenant Lax." We both sigh and say.
"Calling all medical staff to the main tent immediately. Code red, we have an emergency. I repeat, Code red, we have an emergency!" As soon as we heard that, Matteo and I left everything we were doing and went straight to the main tent.As we entered we saw a few other medical staff members waiting. Lieutenant Lax no where in sight.
"I need all of you members to pair up in two and go to one tent each. I will inform you on which tent you go off too. The soldiers are coming back and I heard news that a great sum of them are injured due to a false shooting from the other side of the fences. No time for chit-chat let's go people. Group 1 will go to Tent 1, Group 2 to Tent 2. I'm sure you see the pattern. Now, you are dismissed."
Matteo and I pair up and write down our group number on the group sheet Lax gave the staff. We are group 1 since no body else knew their groups at the time. So, we start trekking off to the first tent. Which we realised only now, that is all the way at the front of the field while we are right in the middle of it. We walk anyways and "chit-chat" while doing so.
"These soldiers really need to be more careful. This isn't the real battlefield as yet and they are already getting injured." I sigh. Some soldiers are just reckless and love causing issues. Then all the consequences are put onto the medical staff. I can't complain much, this job pays for most of my basic needs since I don't have any other income.
Matteo and I walk in a comfortable silence that I always appreciate, I don't like talking 24/7, unlike all the other nurses that can't keep their mouths shut because they all stick their noses in unwanted places. Like how everyone assumes me and Matt are dating when he is just my close friend and the only other companion I have on site.
"I wonder whose in our tent." Matt chirps. "As long as we just finish our job and get out of there because soldiers after training are grumpy, tired and very...very sweaty." I make a disgusted face as I can already smell the toxic fumes invade my nostrils.
"Ew, you're right. Bad BO soldiers are not a pleasant sight nor smell."
I've never confessed this to anyone, but I always had a slight feeling like Matteo is homosexual. I don't judge him in any way, it's just the way he speaks, acts and quite literally how he does everything. His ways are just really feminine sometimes which make me question a few things. I don't plan on mentioning this thought to him because I don't want him to think that I'm secretly judging him. I guess we just have to wait till he tells us more on this topic.
We're almost at Tent 1 when I hear soldiers arriving at their tents and settling in. Nurses assisting them and Lieutenant Lax blabbing nonsense nothings through the microphone that has inter comes connected EVERYWHERE.
I grab Matteo's hand and start speed walking to the tent. The higher tent numbers normally have the more "important" people in the force. So working with the first tent, I'm sure we have some higher grade people to deal with.
We soon arrive at the tent, call for someone to open for us and be left with no response. I take a walk around the tent too see if theres another entrance that would be opened but nothing. I walk back to Matt and just say 'flip it' and start looking for a zipper to let us get in. As I reach for the zipper I hear a deep voice from behind me...
"Not very polite to enter someone's tent without permission, is it?" As I heard that voice my blood boiled and I took a deep breath in to prepare myself for this. I slowly turned around to be met with Colonel König and that pathetic excuse of a man Simon Ghost Riley.
"Just let me do my job and leave." I say through gritted teeth and his eyes widen a bit. "Feisty are we Nurse Luna?"
"How do you know the Chief Colonel Luna?" Matt asked me and I just gave him a look at the corner of my eye before answering him. "I wish I didn't."
"Don't lie to yourself, anyone would kill to know me on such a personal level. Right König?" He turned back to look at his giant of a partner for the validation that he so desperately needed.
"Yea- yes ofcourse." He says with a thick German accent twisted in his words. His voice is hoarse and deep, like a sharp knife cutting deep with one sentence."Listen, I really don't have time for bullshit right now. Let me inside your tent, I'll help with your injuries and then I'll be gone. Just don't annoy me. Deal?"
"Mmm, then where's the fun in that? Not annoying you will be the hardest task from all, I must say." Simon said.
"I'm still confused on how you know each other, and what about 'personal level' is he talking about?" Matt asked me.
"We just...know each other. Okay? No more time for questioning." I start walking to the area where König started unzipping for an entrance and went straight to one of the beds in the tent.
"König, you can come sit here. I just want to check up if you have any injuries." I say politely since he was just standing there waiting for someone to help him out as I saw a patch of blood on his right arm.
I'm guessing since him and Simon are Colonels, they have a front position when doing practice runs on the field. That's why they most probably get injured the most and/or worst.
"Take off your shirt for me please. And your safety vest. Oh, and your gun strap. You know what, just take of everything in the way of your injury please." I say in a hast as he was working quite slow in taking off one thing at a time.
I should feel sympathy since he did just get freakin shot in his arm, but he seems big, strong and quite used to injuries for me not to sympathize that much."Trying to get into his pants? Naughty Luna. I'm not surprised however, you look like the type." Simon opens his mouth while Matt is busy examining him for any bad injuries.
"What 'type'? You mean a hoe? I don't need to explain anything to you but I'm not one of your exes, okay? I'm not a hoe nor am I trying to get into his pants. Relax your balls please."
"Don't say such things, she is here to help us you idiot." König says which surprises me at first.
Simon scoffs, "Whatever, let her do whatever she needs to so she can go faster. The sight of her hideous face is hurting my eyes." He says.
I just roll my eyes and continue to help König and his wound.
