Carlisle POV
Jasper had just proposed to Alice. So why wasn’t I happy? After all I was the one who wanted them to get married in the first place!
I was lost in my thoughts and the feeling of loss when there was a timid knock on my office door.
“Come in.” I called.
The door opened to reveal Alice leaning on the door frame. “Come in Alice.” I said softly. She entered the room studying my face carefully. I heard the front door open then close and caught a glimpse of the others running to hunt.
“Are you alright Carlisle?” she asked me.
“Of course.” I replied. But my feelings said otherwise, I was happy for her but at the same time I couldn’t deny the feeling of losing something.
She sat down on the couch that was against the wall, her small frame looking even tinier on the large leather couch. Her legs were pulled up to her chest with her skinny little arms around them. Her chin rested lightly on her knees, her eyes watching me intently.
Alice was beautiful and I instantly disliked anyone who said anything but that. Her black hair fanned out around her small face which always wore a smile. I detested the girls that picked on her at school because she was different, and it was a relief to know that Rose, Em and Edward stuck up for her. They had hurt her feelings greatly!
I stood from my chair and walked over to the couch. I sat down next to Alice who smiled warmly and me.
“Some year.” she giggled.
“Hmmm, quite.” I sighed. Getting married, I thought. The feeling of loss came a little harder this time.
Alice giggled again, “It’s like they say, you’re not losing a daughter, but gaining a son.”
A genuine smile spread across my face thinking about that.
Alice turned and wrapped her arms around my neck, her head resting on my shoulder. I pulled her onto my lap, even though it was ridiculous her size made it possible. She curled into my arms.
“You’re not going to lose me daddy,” she whispered, “I didn’t spend all my life searching for you just to leave after a year. I am always going to need you.” She put extra emphasis on always.
My heart swelled and my arms wrapped around her tiny waist, hugging her to me tightly.
“Which kind of bring me to why I really came to talk to you.”
I pulled back to look at her.
“I wanted to ask you something.” She climbed out of my lap and sat back on the couch. Her eyes burning holes in the floor. I stood up, hoping she would look at me.
“Daddy... will you give me away?”
I stood their gaping like an idiot and she peeked up at me when she got no response.
“You want me… to give you…away?” I choked out.
She nodded looking incredibly worried.
“Wh… Alice I’d be honoured.” She jumped into my arms and I spun her round.
