What is the most scariest part about living in a foreign country? The unfamiliar people or the sinking feeling in the bottom of your stomach that you don't have anyone to put as your emergency contact or anyone to contact in case you- I don't know die?
With the same feeling, walking around the streets of downtown Seoul was 15 years old, Esther or Taehui as named in the official Korean documents.
A trainee at Pledis Entertainment since 2011, has been in Korea for a year and in the producing team for the renowned rapping show in Korea 'Show Me The Money'. If it were not for the show she might have not even thought of coming to Korea.
I mean K-pop was not that globally renowned during those years only a moron would come here to be a producer but Esther was desperate to make music so, she could never in a million years reject this offer.
She just coming from work and was heading to her company when she bumped into someone"Yah, watch where you are going, little foreign bimbo." exclaimed a rude and strange man from the darkness of the street.
Esther- "Do you expect me to say sorry? Mind your business ajussi don't waste my time or yours" she bit back in her broken Korean.
"Waah these foreign people have the audacity to stay here then order us natives around, jeez."
Nothing just as usual people have the inability to accept differences, nothing else. This was something Taehui or Esther was used to.
One of the most difficult tasks for her was to make her parents agree to let her go to South Korea. Of course, the reply was an expected big fat "NO" but Esther got that attitude from her parents herself so they had to let her go and it was not easy, they had to make sure she would be okay, prepare funds for her flight ticket and living necessities.
That had caused a huge burden on her because she could just not give up, giving up was never an option. If she ever ends up on the street it would have a worse effect on her parents than her.Esther- "Annyounghaseyo Nari unnie, how are you?"
Nari- "Not the best. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Well, what happened at the show today?"
Esther- "Me being suppressed by my seniors, never getting a chance to strive same old same old. Well I'll get going now unnie, I'll catch you later."
While running towards the studio Esther shouted from afar "UNNIE WISH ME LUCK FOR MY EVALUATIONNNN".
Nari- "Hmm BREAK A LEG."Esther- "Yaah what is wrong with you all? It is time for the evaluation, I swear to god if I go down I am taking you all with me."
All the attention was now on Esther. Full of rage she grabbed her computer and slammed the study room from inside."Hyung, I don't think this was supposed to make her furious?"
"You think?"
"Well she is now burning red, what do we do?"
Someone shouted from outside, "JUST COOPERATE WITH HER AND ACE THE MONTHLY EVOLUTION"
"ARRASEO"
"Yeah, that'll do it".The boys were determined to turn her frown upside down. Who were these guys? The trainees at Pledis Entertainment to become an Idol and debut, on the other hand, Esther was training to become a producer and debut her music producing career with one of these groups.
Esther- "You ready?" is the only thing she could confidently say in Korean. Taehui is fluent in intermediate Korean but lacks confidence. Being desperate she she had to learn Korean in 8 months.
"Nae." Came from the female trainees.*After the evaluation*
"Estherya you did well."
Esther- "Thank you Unnie, and all of you did your best too. Now we just wait for the results and feedback."
"Now, I have to handle these troublesome boys" she mumbled to herself.
"Come again?"
Esther- "It's nothing" she laughed sarcastically."Hey," said a trainee whose name was Joshua.
Esther- "Hm what is it?" she replied nonchalantly.
"Are you still angry?" he asked quite sweetly.
'Joshua', from L. A and another guy 'Hansol' were the only ones who could communicate with her initially when she did not know Korean. Although, Esther now, is close with almost all of the girl and boy trainees from the company. As their producer, she has to keep harmony with them and working together brings them closer but initially due to a language barrier she was only close with these two.Esther- "Of course I am, couldn't you see how badly I was scolded just because of your mischief."
"Don't mind her hyung, it was just a harmless prank." said another guy mockingly.
Esther shot her head towards the voice and sent daggers through her eyes while screaming-
"YAH KIM MINGYU, IT WAS YOUR FAULT AND YOU STILL HAVE THE AUDACITY TO IGNORE ALL THIS MESS".
Mingyu- "Not my fault you can't handle a harmless joke you cold girl".
Esther- "Don't get on my nerves Kim Mingyu other wise it'll be your face my shoe."
Mingyu-"That is when you'll be able to catch me."Authors note,
