Trying to ignore it, it's fucking boring
Im quietly observing, I'm saying nothing

Grace POV:

Today was the first day of school. Finally. I wouldn't have to face the awkward and uncomfortable position of being home with my brother and his friends. Reggie had them over every single day. Patrick made an effort to talk to me a few times but most of the time while I was around he had a stoic expression on his face.

I was finished getting ready, I just had to tie my shoes. "Grace! Do you want me to give you a ride? Your brother went with his friends." My mother asked as she came up the stairs and stood in my doorway.

"No thanks, my friends said they wanted to bike to school." I replied as I stood up from my bed, took a last look at myself in the mirror and then picked up my backpack and put it on. My mother nodded and stepped aside so I could walk past her.

My mom gave me a kiss on my forehead. "I love you, have a good day." She said as she smiled at me.

"I love you too." I smiled, rushing down the stairs. My friends were waiting across the street for me, they didn't dare come too close to my house in case my brother or his friends were here. I walked outside and locked the door behind me. I walked to the side of the house, where my bike had been resting. I walked beside it, not getting on yet until I got to them.

"Hi guys." I smiled at them. I was really happy to see them, since it had been kind of a while since I had. For a while after what happened with Patrick, I didn't leave my room much, let alone leave my house. I saw my friends probably twice since then, one of which was about 2 days ago, when we planned to meet up and bike to school.

"Oh my gosh you look amazing." Beverly said as she dropped her bike and came to me to give me a hug. I was closest to Beverly out of all of them. She just got me better than the boys could since we were both girls. I could talk to her about all the stuff I couldn't talk to the rest of them about. She was the only one I told about what happened with Patrick. She told me about what happened to Bills brother, Georgie. I knew that Bill used to have a little brother and that something happened to him, but no one ever told me what and it felt like something that I shouldn't bring up. Bill still believes he's alive.

"Thanks Bev, you're gorgeous." I smiled as I hugged her back.

"R-r-ready to go?" Bill asked everyone. Me and Beverly let go of each other and picked our bikes back up, nodding in response to his question.

"Hey wait, where's Eddie?" I asked, realizing that he was the only one of us that wasn't here.

"We went to his house to pick him up, but his mom said she wanted to give him a ride to school since it wasn't safe for his asthma." Stan stated.

"I offered to give her a ride but she said no." Richie shrugged with a laugh.

Everyone ignored his stupid joke. Bill got on his bike first and began peddling. The rest of us followed. Once we got to the school we still had about 10 minutes before the first bell rang. Eddie was waiting for us near the bike rack. He said hi as we locked up our bikes on the bike rack outside of the school.

"What's your guys' first period?" Ben asked.

"I have English with Mrs Rowland." I said.

"That's a gate teacher though?" Eddie said in surprise.

I shrugged in response. "Okay, well I have Algebra with Mr. Razo." Beverly said. "M-me t-t-too." Bill smiled at her.

"You guys are in algebra? I have foundation with Ms. Corwin." Richie shrugged.

"I have agriculture with Mrs. Richards." Ben stated.

"I have PE with Ms. Martin." Stan sighed.

"Me too, except I have Mr. Cooper." Eddie groaned.
"Quit whining, you know your mommy will get you out of doing any actual exercise." Richie teased, causing Eddie to flash him a dirty look.

"Grace, can I see your schedule?" Bev asked. I smiled at her and handed her the paper that listed my classes and teachers.

"1. Gate English: Rowland
2. Beginning Art: Renteria
3. Intro to Agriculture: Richards
4. LUNCH
5. Spanish 1: Soliz
6. PE: Martin
7. Algebra 1: Corwin" she read out.

As Beverly went on reading the list, some of the other would say "same" if they had the same class as me, which caused me great relief since I knew no one else at this school... aside from my brother and his friends.  We continued looking over each other's schedules until I heard my brothers voice say my name. I turned around, hoping he'd be alone, but of course he wasn't.

"What period do you have PE? And what's your elective?" He asked me.

"Uh why?" I asked as I held out my schedule for him to grab.

"Those are the only classes I could have with you since I'm a grade above." He said as his eyes studied the paper for a moment. He let out a sigh. "You have PE with Patrick and Victor." Patrick smirked as Reggie said that. I frowned.

"What period do you have it, Reg? Maybe I'll switch to yours." I said quietly.

"Nah you don't wanna do that, I have it first." He was definitely right. I did not want pe first period. I sighed and grabbed my schedule back as the bell rang.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After 7th period we all met up in the hallway and walked out together. We were now standing in front of the school
"Look, Betty Ripsom's mom." Eddie said as he pointed at Mrs. Ripsom, who was standing next to the sheriff who happened to be Henry Bowers' father.
"Is she really expecting to see her come out of that school?" Stanley asked. I didn't respond. I didn't know how to respond. Richie broke the silence. "I don't know. As if Betty's been hiding at Home Ec. for the last few weeks."
"You think they'll actually find her?" I asked quietly.
"Sure. In a ditch. All decomposed, covered in worms and maggots. Smelling like Eddie's mom's underwear." He replied.
"Shut up! That's freaking disgusting." Eddie said defensively.
"She's not dead. She's missing." Bill stated, sounding very sure. His words caused an awkwardness and a chill in the air. Everyone else remained quiet as we watched the interaction.
"Sorry bill. She's missing. You know, the Barrens aren't that bad. Who doesn't love splashing around in shitty water?" A small smile crept onto my face as I heard Richie's words. However, my face quickly dropped as Richie was yanked backwards by his backpack, causing him to crash into Stan, which resulted in them both falling to the ground. Stans kippah fell off his head (I'm so sorry if that's not what it's called, I had to google it because I forgot what they're called).
I turned my head to see who had pushed Richie. My face went pale.
