The Diary of A Fifth Year

September 1st,
Here we go again, such a fabulous start to another year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I love eating a big feast in the great hall with everyone, watching the first years get sorted into their houses, and looking at the new kids’ faces when the school’s ghost pops up through their dinner tables and soars around their heads. I’ve missed it all so much. I love going home for the summer but there’s nothing like being here. Dumbledore stood up to announce that all fifth year students, that’s me, are going to be showing the new kids in our houses around the castle and where their rooms are.
Showing them around was a lot more fun than I thought. This poor kid, Ron, got stuck on the moving staircases. Never seen such a worried facial expression in my life, even though it was quite hilarious. The talking pictures on the walls really freaked them out. Seeing them jump every few seconds really made me giggle. I looked down the corridor to see the Slytherins making their way to their rooms. I don’t really pay much of attention to Slytherins because of the rivalry between us, but that time when I looked I couldn’t help but to notice Draco. He’s already causing trouble and classes haven’t even began yet. He’s just another one of those rich know-it-all snobs that like to annoy everyone. Definitely not my type.
September 2nd,
This year is going to be great! Snape looks just as creepy as the year before and Madam Skye told me today that I am the official photographer for this years Quidditch season. How great is that? I can hardly wait for the first game to take place. Mum got me a new camera for my 16th birthday and what a great opportunity to try it out . Speaking of Mum, she had Hourglass, our owl, bring me a letter from her and Dad today. They told me that everything was fine at the house and to send her some pictures as soon as possible. She also sent me a fortune she cut out from Witches Weekly. It said, “Your gift is very powerful but can lead to something that takes some serious thinking. Always remember to do the right thing and you’ll be okay.” I don’t know what this one means but then again these things are hardly every true. Well, I better get some good night sleep. I start taking some pictures of the castle tomorrow for a little practice. Goodnight.
September 13th,
It’s only been a few days into the school year and I’ve already been so busy! We had our first Quidditch game today. We won! Gryffindor beat Slytherin 7 to 3! Syltherin can not win the house cup for the third year in a row so it’s important that we win. I got some great pictures of the game. I even got a picture of the seeker, Harry, catching the snitch in his mouth! Madam Skye is going to look over my pictures tonight and tell me how they look. She’s my favorite teacher. I really like her because she’s interested in a lot of things I am and acts like a friend more than a teacher. I’m so anxious to know what she thinks of them.
September 15th,
Tonight at supper Dumbledore announced that something terrible has happened. We don’t know exactly what has happened or who‘s behind it. We found a student floating in the air petrified. Professor McGonagall said this happened a few years ago and it didn’t end well. It started when Dumbledore found a note on his desk saying, “ I want her…and I will stop a nothing to get her.“ Scary huh? It sends a little chill down my back just thinking about it. Dumbledore said he was getting to the bottom of it though so everything should be just fine. I know this is a crazy idea, but I wonder if Draco has anything to do with this.
