"kyle."

I heard a voice calling my name. It was barely illegible, as if I was hearing it through a wall.

"Kyle."

The voice became more recognizable, obviously male. It seemed to be getting closer to me.

"KYLE!"

I was shook awake. A light different from the one I last saw hit my vision. It was morning.

My eyes were barely able to open. I was still immobilized from the neck down.

I wasn't dead.

There seemed to be a figure in front of me. My vision still blurred to the point that I was unable to recognize this person who was an inch away from my face.

I soon felt something being pushed on to me. It was warm, a blanket or jacket I suppose. I looked down and saw that it was a bright orange.

"Who-"

"Shhh Kyle," the figure whispered to me. Their hot breath hitting my ears.

"You're going to be okay, alright? I promise you."

I immediately felt like I was lifted up. The person placed me on their shoulder, holding me as if I was a baby.

"Geez Kyle. You're lucky you're pretty thin, else I wouldn't have been able to hold you. Well I guess that's not a good thing anyways but whatever."

I felt myself drifting in and out of consciousness. It was hard to focus on anything. I felt my nose against their back.

The smell was extremely unbearable, almost putting me back to unconsciousness. Yet, for some reason it was familiar.

This stranger stunk of cat piss and just general dirt.

"You're going to be okay Kyle. I promise," they kept repeating, as if they meant to assure them self rather than directing it to me.

I felt weak, as if I'll close my eyes once more and never wake up.

Suddenly there was a sting on my cheek. The person had lightly slapped me.

"Oh no no no Kyle. Don't you dare close your eyes on me. Don't you dare give up. I believe in you. Just hold on dammit! I'm almost there!"

I felt the person start to speed up.

Despite being noticeably lighter than the average male, it still shouldn't be very easy for this person to run while holding me. Their shoulders weren't very broad and they were probably thinner or about as thin as I was.

They were running on their determination to keep me alive.

Beep

All I heard was those beeps again and again.

It was all I could focus on. My eyelids were heavy, leaving me unable to open my eyes. I sat there in total consciousness, left in the dark with nothing but the constant beeping to keep me company. My mind drifted and I was unable to go back to sleep.

I was reminded of my old habits. Darkness, silence, and the sense of unease were all past friends of mine. However, this time it was involuntary.

Slowly, my hearing started to become more focused as I heard something other than the beeping. A sound that sounded similar to crying was coming from right next to me. They were deep sniffles, slow as if they've been crying for sometime. I had no idea who it was or even if it was a male or female. Yet, even so, I really wanted to comfort them.
