I feel the damp sand mold around the shape of my feet. I find myself staring straight ahead, locking eyes with the sea. I don't remember coming here, but I feel compelled to stay. I continue to watch the waves rise, building onto each other as they create something entirely new. The waves crash onto the shore and the water consumes my feet, planting them deeper in the sand. The white noise of the ocean calms and isolates my senses, allowing each new sensation to be registered without dimming the others around me. The salty breeze kindly blows my hair behind me, and I can feel the oceans mist across my face. I look further onto the horizon, mesmerized by the motion of the waves. Everything was so beautiful and serene. Gradually, the sound I originally recognized as white noise turned into something far more familiar. Between each rise and fall of the waves, I can hear my name. I couldn't make out the voice, but I was compelled to follow it. Freeing my once planted foot from the sand, I feel my body move closer to the water; my stare still unbroken from the horizon. The temperature of the water leaves my mind unfazed as I move into the oceans grasp; my name louder and clearer with every step. As I get deeper, the waves turn fierce, and the sky shifts to a thick gray. I can feel my clothes weighing me down as I trudge through the water. Thunder rolls in the distance as I approach the now vigorous waves. I slowly put my hand to my chest as I feel my lungs start to fill with water. I break free from the trance and take in my surroundings. The tides that were once summoning me, were now pushing me away. Almost as if they were trying to protect me. With my head still above water, I try to breathe in the crisp air right in front of me.. but all I feel is more water harboring in my airways. I hear the thunder roar one last time, before I wake.
