Godhood is just like girlhood: A begging to be believed.

Tell me a story of a girl.

She's beautiful and perfect, clean and innocent, successful and the perfect mother, until she meets her inevitable end, graying and old and loved by all still. A girl painted by society, sculpted and perfected. Each mistake smudged out into perfect pretty lines.

This.

This is what you think a girl should be.

Right?

Or is it exactly what a girl is not?

A girl is angry. A girl is tired and expected to be someone she is not. A girl is hellish, the looks of an angel yet the heart of the devil. A girl wants and begs and still gets nothing. A girl gives and takes and still gets nothing. A girl is a god, all knowing, all powerful.

Yet, no one really knows the life of a girl. Not in the moment or years after. A soul that enters and leaves when it's vessel is no longer useful. When the girl is a woman. Yet some of that hellish girl still lingers. A stain clung to the skin of a woman who used to be someone else.

This.

This is the story of a girl.

Right?

Maybe not.

But this is the story of Iris Dunne.

Hell trapped inside the body of the prettiest girl in town. The girl who hides and plays the part of someone else. Someone who is everyone but her. Someone who's pain is planted under her skin. Someone who's hair is pulled too tight with pink ribbon because Mother said it looks better that way. Someone who's love is locked away. The key to her heart only held by one person her entire life. (He never gave it back!)

Love

Love is a lie, she thinks.

Love is a trap. Perfect and beautiful and laced with magic. Until you fall. Fall deep. Hard. Fast. All of its beauty gone in seconds. Love is conditional. Love does not go both ways.

This.

This is what Iris believes of love. She believes that love is for the weak. Love is just a wolf in sheep's clothing. He doesn't love you. He just wants something to call his own. A token, Iris thinks this is all she means to a boy. A man.

Now Iris is a girl that lingers on the lost. Lingers on the pain. Lingers on the feeling of his touch. How long can she let this first love linger?

Forever maybe, but maybe not.
