When Seth grabbed the gun, he felt immediate regret. Deep down, he knew that by doing this, he would be killing the man who effectively raised him. Someone who wanted to create a world where people wouldn't have to be afraid. If he didn't intervene, Colt would've shot first. He wanted to undo it.

So he did. He broke the gun's firing mechanism before he gave it to Cyrus.
Though Cyrus and Colt fired at exactly the same moment, Cyrus' gun malfunctioned. But Colt's didn't.
Cyrus was shot in the chest.
Colt was panting, thinking for a moment before he dropped his spear. "Oh god..."
Cyrus lied down on his back as Seth rushed to his side, crying.
"Why... Why are you fighting?!..."
Cyrus painfully put an arm around Seth. "Sssh... It's okay... Dad just..." He coughed. "Made a mistake..."
Colt slowly stumbled over to him. "I never wanted it to come to this..."
Cyrus looked up at Colt. "I.... ....understand.... Just... Promise me... You'll look after him..."
Colt nodded. "Everything in my power... I promise..."
Cyrus looked at Seth. "L-listen... I'm... Gonna have to go now... I want you to keep doing what you're doing... Because mom and dad are proud of you... We always were."
Seth looked at him, crying. "But..."
Cyrus kept going. "Colt's gonna take care of you now... S-since I wasn't able to..."
Seth shook him a little. "But where?! Where are you going, dad?!"
Cyrus thought for a moment. "Visiting mom... We'll be watching you... We love you, Seth... And just... One more thing..."
Seth looked at him. "W-What?..."
Cyrus took the last breath of his life. "I'm sorry... For everything..."
Colt fell onto his knees beside them. "Damn it..!"

Seth looked at Colt.
Colt looked back at him. "I'm sorry.. I really am... I'll get you out and... If you don't want to stay with me you can--"
Seth hugged onto him. "Please... Don't leave me."
Colt looked at him for a moment. "... I won't..."
Seth buried his face into Colt's chest. "Promise?..."
Colt hugged him back. "Promise..."

Meanwhile, Pakki and Faust returned with Klaris.
Kevin soon arrived on the scene as well, and the two helped everyone get out of the Depths.
But as our protagonists returned to Etris, they were greeted by the news that, amidst the chaos, David and James escaped the prison. Locations of both are unknown.
Colt is now burdened by the loss of Cyrus and Jane, having witnessed both first hand - And now the war with the Legion is completely unpredictable. Negotiations with the Authority will also be harder, as Jane, who was negotiating peace with Colt, died. And to top all of that off, there is also the looming danger of the Penumbra Corps.
That was Colt's thought process. But unlike before, he had no conception of what to do next.
