Chapter 33: Off with your Head!

I sit on the couch and think of a way to put myself into Wonderland.

And to keep myself there long enough to stop this queen.

I'm deep in thought, staring out the window when Dylan comes over.

"Hey, babe. Look--"

I put my hand up and shake my head.

He looks at me bewildered.

"Thinking."

He nods.

"About what?"

"Not that it's any of your concern, how to fall into Wonderland and stay there to find this monster and kill her."

He looked at me with sad eyes.

"I'm sorry I didn't believe you. I just sometimes think it's getting to your head. You were isolated for a long time. I just want you happy.."

I smile and kiss him.

Everything will be okay.

Mati's POV

I call Alice upstairs to me.

"Yes?" She cries from downstairs.

"Come here a second?"

I hear her run up the steps.

"Hey" she says in the doorway.

"What's up?"

"Not much, trying to fall into Wonderland and kill the bitch, is all."

"It happens randomly though, doesn't it?"

"Yea. I'm trying to recreate the times it's happened though."

"Well when does it?"

"When I'm really sad and, lately, when I'm really happy. Like the extremities push me off the edge..."

She smiles at me and I nod at her.

"I promise to catch you if you fall-- DYLAN COME IN HERE ALLY IS GOING TO TRY SOMETHING."

We hear him run up the steps.

"I was getting dinner ready, sorry."

"I'll go finish, make her happy so she can murder this thing, please?"

"I'll try my best." He flashes Alice a flirty smile and I leave them to.. them.

Dylan's POV

I hate when this happens. I'm kissing her and telling her she's beautiful and everything I want and she just mentally checks out.

I guess that was the plan but I hope this doesn't keep happening after she kills that thing. I need to show her affection without having to worry.

I hate this part.

The suspense.

Watching her features turn into those of a deceased woman.

It's frightening.

Alice's POV

I did it! I'm in Wonderland!

Okay. Think. Where would a queen be?

I study my surroundings.

I'm inside an asylum. It looks nothing like Rutledge.

This place was worn and dirty.

I walked slowly, trying to find the door to get out.

I was greeted by something else.

The insane child I saw at Rutledge.

She was in pieces now.

"Alice! Alice! Save us! The queen is ravaging every village!"

"What? Why?"

"She knows you know about her. She's searching everywhere for you. She wants your head."

"She will not get what she wants. I want her out of my head."

"We will be of no help, Alice.--She crawls closer-- we are too weak. You are the only one strong enough to stand up to her. After all, this is your territory."

"I guess so.."

Before this insane child dies, she points to the East.

I nod.

I know what I must do.

I know where I must go.
