(TRANS) 150506 BTS 'I NEED U' COMEBACK PERFORMANCES COMPARISON

Korean group Bangtan Boys showed growth that many desire. On April 29, Bangtan Boys released their third mini album "화양연화 pt. 1" and showed an even more matured side. On May 5's SBS MTV The Show, BTS won their first #1 of their comeback. BTS became a symbol of desired growth due to their musical talents and popularity. BTS has alway been known for their charismatic performances and similarly they have improved (this time). The performances for their title song "I Need U" create a unique blend of harmonious emotional mood. In the "I Need U" performances, you can see their acting and charismatic moves. BTS' performances fulfill both the "sounds good" and "looks good" standards.

Mnet 'M Countdown': BTS with boy charms

Camera work: ★★★★ (4)

Wet hair: ★★☆ (2.5)

BTS 美 (beauty): ★★★★ (4)

The 'I Need U' performances start with the members lying in a circle. The camera work needs to include shots of "unrest". It is interesting that each member demonstrated their own "unrest" shots. Although M Countdown is their first comeback show, they still completed a very awesome start. In terms of the background, they used a lighting effect with a light shining through a dark space, demonstrating the album concept of uneasy youth. The filming starting off with a shot of all the members lying on the floor, and then proceeded to individual shots of each member through special effects. When they started singing, Suga's individual shot appeared, showing a perfect editing technique. BTS wore uniform-style outfits on stage, nostalgic of their school concept and their boy charms. With their slightly wet hair and sad acting, they completed the performance very well. Through J-Hope's neat dancing and Jungkook's center dance, M Countdown showed perfect camera shots. One thing that is lacking - please blowdry your hair.

KBS2 'Music Bank': Turning point after the calm

Camera work : ★★★ (3)

Let's find V : ★★★ (3)

4-part drama special: ★★★★ (4)

Music Bank used a flower special effect and "uneasy" camera shots. The image of the flower slowly bloomed, fitting the album theme of "hwa yang yeon hwa". The mood J-Hope created in the beginning is very good but Music Bank failed to capture shots of V. They did not close up on V's "everything" and "talking to myself again" parts so V was practically not even shown onscreen. It was a wonderful part when Jungkook does his turn midair and all the members jump out and throw down their arms. What's a shame is that Music Bank was able to capture the shots but didn't give it any special effects. At the same time since they had a close up on Jungkook, they weren't able to show the entire group. Luckily they completed the Jin-V-Jungkook-Jimin shot in the second half that has always been a must-watch part.

MBC "Show! Music Core': Dynamic atmosphere of ambivilance

Camera work : ★★★ (3)

Regretful details : ★★☆ (2.5)

To those that favor long pants : ★★★★★ (5)

Music Core introduced dynamic camera angles according to the rhythm. It showed its special points after the end of the dance break in the first half. The mood of the entire performance matched well with BTS but there are still some disappointing details. In the second part's "you're so cold" dance, their wave is a very important point in their choreography but the angle Music Core filmed it from was not able to capture the entire part. During Rap Monster's rap parts, he was merely captured as the camera zoomed in on 5 people so it wasn't able to show him well enough. During the part when Rap Monster joined V, the camera once again captured close-ups on each member so it wasn't able to capture it entirely. During Jin's part in the second half, they weren't able to capture the moves of the other members. What's a shame is that during Jungkook's turn in midair, they only captured Jungkook himself. Despite this, we finally saw BTS with long pants! These long-pants style here captured the attention of many!

SBS 'Inkigayo': Freshness's dizziness

Camera work : ★★★ (3)

Coordination between ARMY and BTS: ★★★★☆ (4.5)

Round and Round [fast transitions]: ★★★ (3)

Inkigayo's entire "uneasy" camera shots showed the lightsticks of the fans. It's a really impressive design to see Suga through the lightsticks. Through different types of angles, Inkigayo was able to fit the mood of the "I Need U" lyrics very well. However, during the chorus' sharp dance and dance break, the transition of the cameras was not very good. When filming V, there was a bright light that showed up onscreen. During Jungkook's midair turn at the end, it was a bit of a shame that they used white papers.

SBS MTV 'The Show': Congratulations on #1!

Camera work : ★★★☆ (3.5)

Visual viewing time: ★★★★ (4)

I want to become V's thumb : ★★★★★ (5)

BTS' comeback performance on The Show is for visual enjoyment. As compared to entire-scene shots or entire-group shots, they used more close-ups on each member so you get enough time to enjoy the visuals. But because of this, the performanced lacked the captures of entire-scene shots that shows the importance of the choreography. During the chorus, The Show used a 2-person shot that's not a close-up nor an entire angle shot. What's interesting is that J-Hope's red shoes helped the fans clearly see how he exactly stood up during his part. The fans are louder than usual, giving this performance a special meaning.
