The little girls black shoes echoed as they hit on the concrete floor as she ran 'TAP TAP TAP' she picked up pace running in fear, she ran and ran, until she couldn't feel her legs any more then continued to run, she ran through puddles of the crimson red blood of her old friends, she ran, her shackles cutting into her ankles, and she ran, the boots of the workers slowly faded in the distance, but she continued to run. She stumbled and quickly recovered, panting out of breath. She took cover behind a Surgery table, She looked around left and right to make sure no one followed her and then shock took over, she sat there, tears slowly flowing down her cheeks. She was not a human, as they told her. Everyday, you do the same thing over and over, wake up, get "tests" done, eat their rations, and go back to their cells for rest, and sleep. They had no will, They had no one waiting for them, They didn't even exist. No records of their birth were in any document, There was no hope of escaping, once there, you can never leave. You might as well be dead. You are not a human anymore. You have no will, no drive to live. You don't know the difference between life and death. You are just a hollow shell, an unoccupied vessel walking on soil.
"Oh 563? Where could you be?" a voice sung out looking for the child who was crying behind a corner of the surgery table, hiding. "Come on out." Every word the voice said, had hints of more and more irritation in them. They were growing impatient, It sounded as if they were dragging something. The little girl covered her mouth with both of her hands as she stared at the floor, her eyes wide in shock and fear. The room is cold. The voice only made the eerie atmosphere seem worse, it was even scarier to the little girl. Suddenly the sound of the boots just stopped. No other breaths were in the room other than the little girls slight breathing, trying to stay quiet, she lets out a sigh of relief, suddenly the noise of some piece of metal falls onto the concrete floor to the left of the girl, she looked to her side, where the noise came from and backed away in panic at seeing it, it was a tag, with a number on it. It was roses number,
"Ro..rose.." the girl barely choked the words out of her, as she began crying"ROSE!"
"So that's what you called this pest?" The voice said as they stood behind the girl, The girl sat there frozen, She recalls just hours before her and the other kids were playing in the garden, laughing, smiling, and enjoying the nice weather, they rarely go outside, but it's required for them to get properly nourished, they were playing tag in secret, behind the thick trees, keeping there laughs and giggles as quiet as possible, as to not let the adults, the humans, the ones who run the tests, the ones who run the facility, from knowing. If they found out who knows what they'll do, and of course Zen just had to slip and fall in some dirt, tainting their light, almost white, blue outfit, there was no small ponds or something to clean off the mud just incase kids drown or something, that's what the faces they seen everyday always said. They tried to hide it the best they could, but they are incapable of thinking of a lie, so when questioned they came clean, and that's where it all started. The faces got angry, the people got angry, they took everyone and threw them in their cells, screams were heard as their small bodies got battered by metal pipes and wooden bats. An overreaction over a slight mistake, but you cannot make mistakes here... Mistakes are forbidden, no one will get out uninjured if one makes a mistake, "collective responsibility" they call it, they say that its to teach them that they are supposed to behave, they are supposed to be perfect, its to make them functional, they are useless to the facility if not. Then some of the kids started to fall asleep and not wake up, one by one, this is when the rest of the children began to run, out of 800 kids running, only 50 were still helplessly roaming the halls by the sound of the security, the clear glass eyes, which they call cameras, knew our every move, they knew where we were. They will never lose us. We are there. You have no hope to escape. You are here forever. Freedom is just a dream, but you are unable to dream. Because between all the tests, you are too exhausted to even process your own shadow.
"I believe you had called the other one.. Kei, isn't that right... zen?" The voice made Zen snap back to reality.
"H-how?" Zen barely can form her words properly
"The cameras know all that goes on here, there's nowhere to hide."
"Why are they siding with you.?"
"Stupid child, they are programmed and conditioned to listen to us, the ones that dont are defective. Like you."
"What...? Defective..?"
"That's correct, 563, we have no use for defective creatures as yourself." the person said, they're called our caretakers, but we don't call them that, they are too scary to care. They are the faces that would be in our nightmares, if our brains dared dream. Memories are like scars. They fade. And once gone, replaced, except memories only get worse. You are not human, you are not alive. But I'm here... I can breathe, I can walk, I sustain myself with water and food... but I am nothing but a parasyte, I can't even classify as one, they are above us. They are superior, but they are but a parasyte, so how..?
While the little girl was contemplating on everything, a thud was heard as the 'caretaker' threw the unconscious Rose to the floor in front of Zen. Zen stared at her friend, who never woke up on impact somehow.
