"𝐈'𝐌 𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐈'𝐌 𝐒𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄, 𝐃𝐔𝐃𝐄." Carlos whispered, cradling the small dog in his arms as he strolled through the dimly lit halls of Auradon Prep. The lanterns lining the walls cast soft pools of light, but the darkness between them felt heavier tonight.

The silence was oppressive — everyone tucked away in their dorms for curfew — leaving Carlos's words to echo faintly as he spoke. "It's been a night. Ben got captured."

Elizabeth trailed a step behind Carlos, her arms crossed and a skeptical look on her face. "You spoil that dog, you know," she teased lightly.

Carlos shrugged; his tone grim. "Well, Ben got captured, so I think I'm allowed a little comfort."

Elizabeth's teasing smile faded. She was about to reply when they both froze, Carlos nearly stumbling into her as Jay grabbed onto their shoulders and pulled them back. "Why's our door open?" Jay's voice was low but sharp, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the dimly lit dorm room ahead.

He then pushed past the two, storming his way into the dorm with them following behind. They were met by Chad standing in front of their printer, his face squished up against the glass as he closely observed the mini figurine he was printing of himself.

"You've got to be kidding me," Carlos groaned, leaning against the doorframe, his face a mix of disbelief and irritation.

Chad spun around, startled, and quickly plastered on a smug grin. "Oh, hey guys! I knocked," he said, letting out an awkward laugh.

"Did you, though?" Elizabeth shot back, her hands on her hips. Carlos sighed, setting Dude down on his dog bed before walking up to Chad and holding out his hand expectantly.

Chad rolled his eyes but reluctantly reached into his pocket, pulling out a key. "Fine," he muttered, dangling it in front of Carlos. "You know, you really should lock your door better. People might think it's an open invitation."

"Gee, thanks for the advice," Carlos replied dryly, snatching the key.

Elizabeth, meanwhile, stepped closer to the printer, her brow furrowing as she pointed at the object being created inside. "What... is that?" she asked, tilting her head.

"Oh!" Chad brightened, opening the printer door and pulling out the figurine with a flourish. "It's a little Chad action figure! Well, minus the head."

"Sounds like an improvement," Carlos quipped, brushing past him to start resetting the printer.

Elizabeth smirked but quickly refocused. She crouched down next to Carlos, helping him adjust the machine's settings while Jay shoved Chad out of the way. As Carlos tapped on his phone to configure the design, Chad leaned over his shoulder, his eyes widening as he caught sight of the blueprint on the screen.

"Wait a second," Chad gasped dramatically, his jaw dropping. "Why are you guys making Fairy Godmother's wand?"

     The room went still.

Elizabeth, Carlos, Jay, and Chad all froze, glancing between each other like deer caught in headlights. Chad looked at Carlos, Carlos looked at Jay, Jay looked at Elizabeth, and Elizabeth — of course — was staring directly at Chad, her mind scrambling for an excuse.

"Uh..." Elizabeth laughed nervously, slapping her hands on her hips. "Why are we making Fairy Godmother's wand? That's a, uh, good question!" Her voice pitched higher than usual, and she shot a desperate glance at Carlos and Jay.

"Because, uh..." Carlos began, but he trailed off, clearly out of ideas.

     "Ben's been captured!"

All four of them turned sharply toward the sound of the voice. Dude sat calmly on his dog bed, his tail wagging as if nothing unusual had just happened.

Elizabeth's jaw dropped. She leaned forward, pointing at the dog. "Did he just —"

"What?" Chad exclaimed, stumbling back a step. "Dude can talk?!"

Elizabeth threw her hands in the air, letting out a dramatic sigh. "I was stalling!" she groaned, glaring at the dog.

"I thought you forgot," Dude replied, his tone nonchalant.

Chad blinked rapidly, looking between them. Jay then leaned forward, slapping his arm. "Don't tell anyone!" The tone in his voice making Chad flinch, holding a hand over his heart.

Elizabeth stepped forward, forcing Chad's attention back on her. "Chad, Ben's life depends on it, and if you go snitch on us, I swear —"

Jay cut in, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Easy, Liz. We don't have time for threats right now."

"Whatever," Elizabeth huffed, crossing her arms as she glared at Chad.

"So. . . if something were to happen, you know what I'm saying," Chad questioned, nodding at them as Carlos raised a brow, motioning for him to continue. "God forbid. But, if something were to happen, who do you think would be in line to be king?" Chad added, shrugging while holding his figurine beside his head.

Jay furrowed his brows, "Is it me or is that in really poor taste?"

He then made his way to the door, holding it wider for Chad to leave. Smiling, Elizabeth moved behind Chad, reaching up to put her hands on his shoulders as she shoved him out of the room. Despite his complaints, Jay slammed the door shut behind him.

      "Thank you, Jay."
