﹒⌗﹒🌹﹒౨ৎ˚₊‧                        "𝓘'𝐌 𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐈'𝐌 𝐒𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄, 𝐃𝐔𝐃𝐄." Carlos whispered softly, his voice nearly swallowed by the stillness of Auradon Prep's sleeping halls. The school had long since quieted for the night, and only the soft creak of his footsteps accompanied him as he moved, cradling the small mutt tenderly in his arms.

The golden glow from the old lanterns flickered across the polished floors, casting long shadows that made the walk to his dorm feel longer, heavier. The darkness between each light felt unusually tense—like the castle itself was holding its breath.  Carlos's words to echo faintly as he spoke. "It's been a night. Ben got captured."

Trailing just behind him, Elizabeth rubbed her arms against the chill and gave Carlos a knowing glance. Her expression danced somewhere between fondness and exasperation. "You spoil that dog," she said under her breath, a teasing lilt in her voice, though her concern for Carlos was obvious in her tone. Her hair fell in loose waves over her shoulders, swaying slightly as she walked. "You know that, right?"

Carlos didn't look back, but his grip on Dude tightened for a second. "Ben got captured," he muttered grimly, as if the weight of the words might crack if spoken any louder. "I think I'm allowed a little comfort."

Elizabeth's smile faded immediately. Her brow furrowed, and she opened her mouth to respond when suddenly a strong arm yanked both of them back, making Carlos stumble into her with a surprised grunt.

"Why's our door open?" Jay's voice was sharp and low, like the snap of a trap being set. His hand dropped from their shoulders as he stepped in front of them, eyes narrowed, instincts flaring as he scanned the darkened hallway. "We locked it when we left, right?"

Without waiting for a reply, Jay shoved the door open fully and stormed inside. Carlos and Elizabeth followed quickly behind him—and stopped cold.

Standing directly in front of their 3D printer, his nose nearly pressed to the glass, was Chad. His posture was rigid with excitement, completely oblivious to the glares burning into the back of his head.
