Just about everything in my life has always had a downside.
I live in a small town; I have almost no friends.
I'm really close to my older brother Ryder, but he's overprotective, and I can hardly go for a walk without him demanding to know where I've been.
I've learned to be strong, but that is only because I grew up knowing that the reason my dad had left was because he didn't want kids. Because he didn't want me.
I try to be optimistic, but it wears me down to the bone on some days and exhausts me.
I know how to use magic, and that makes life easier most of the time. But it comes with a lot of rules that I never seem to remember. Someday, I might break one of the major rules and cease to exist.
The one thing that doesn't have a downside is that my best friend Livia lives across the street from me.
I'm just afraid that one day there will be a downside to that, like there is a downside to everything else in my life.
