The latest buzz in the school: The Midterm Exams. It was everyone's worst nightmare, to some extent. Most students dread it but to me, it was nothing but a small obstacle to my goal of having a 4.0 GPA.
"Yup," I chuckled to myself, "this will be nothing but a breeze. Finally, I can prove to that witch that gamers can still have good grades." I clearly remember the night when my mother brutally smashed my gaming console to pieces over a single 'B' in a garden of 'A's on my report last semester. Since then, I managed to maintain a 3.8 GPA, however, this will be the final stepping stone until I can convince her.
"Go on, ask him." Those words pulled me from my thoughts as I opened my eyes and faced the direction the sound came from. It was from a girl that was, with two others, pushing another towards my desk. Be aware that I sit at the back of the class by the window, while they sit at the front of the class three rows from me.
"G-guys, s-stop this," she stuttered. It was clear that what was going on was against her will. One of the girls forcefully guiding her then spoke up in a light tone, "Hey Kazuo."
I replied in the manner of lightening my facial expression, since I was showing a bit of concern.
"Come on Lora, ask him," another from their group told her. The one named Lora did not heed to their request and instead turned her face away from me.
I've seen these moments in dating sims that I played a few years back. A side character approaches the main character and asks them out on a date. It was nothing new to me really, however, the timing could not be any more worse as the midterms were only a few days away.
"Look," I smiled while getting up, "I know what you're gonna say." This seemed to have caught all four off guard. Shouldering my bag, I closed my eyes and continued, "And I'm gonna have to decline." I brushed past the girls who stood in shock. "Come back in a week and I'll guarantee my acceptance."
I smirked to myself before leaving the class. However, I was stopped in my tracks when Lora got the courage to muster out the words "I want to study with you!" to me.
Now that was unexpected. I have never heard of that answer in none of the many high school simulator games I played. My body slowly turned to her with a bit of surprise on my face.
"You want to," I paused, "study, with me?" Throughout my time in high school, never have I ever gotten this type of confession nor was it ever a scenario in the video games I played.
"Y-yeah." There she goes with the stuttering again.
"A-alright." And there I go, picking up after her. "Your place or mine?"
"Y-yours please."
She turned away that time, lowering her voice. I outstretched my right hand and motioned for her to accompany me. Lora nodded and hastily rushed to my side, leaving all her friends behind with wide opened mouths.
"Are you sure about wanting to study with me?" I questioned her. It has been about 20 minutes since we arrived at my home. It was not that far from the school, to her comfort. Along the way, I interrogated her, as a way of ensuring she was 'fit' enough for mother's approval to enter the house since that witch only acknowledges those who are 'scholars.'
"Y-yes," she promptly answered back.
"I mean, you've been on that same page since we started." It was true. Lora was apparently divulging in the art of human anatomy, most specifically, the reproductive system.
"U-Um, t-that's b-because, um," she was most definitely a flustered mess now. I let out a sigh and closed my book. It was as plain as day; Lora was a normie who was just getting introduced to the world of a gamer. What else could it be? She was locked up with me in a den of a room filled with games, anime figurines, both nude and clothed, and more otaku stuff. Of course it would be difficult to study in this environment.
